Had a serious noodle craving last night so came to Asylum to find some!
I’ve seen this cart but for some reason I didn’t pay attention.
OH my goodness. I was not ready to find a new favorite. I had the #11 noodle, egg & cabbage. DELICIOUS.
I WILL BE BACK.

The quality and taste of the Tofu Buddha Bowl is ALWAYS perfect. Love the peanut sauce, big or small you will be filled up right for only $13! One small criticism, maybe add something acidic to top like lime, lemon or even rice vinegar? Either way great flavors and value, keep up the awesome food!

I didn’t know this was something I needed in my life until I saw it. A PAD THAI BUTRITO?! Brilliant. Simply brilliant. After shoving this magical creation into my face I was left happy, highly satisfied, and wanting another. I will 100% be back for another. 10/10

Best Asian food in Portland! My whole family loves this cart. Their pork belly french fries are amazing and the pad thai burrito is absolutely terrific. The service is always great and the owner is a total sweetheart. Next time you’re in the area, please give Cha Ya a try.

I visited 2 weeks ago at dinner time and ordered a red chicken curry that had uncooked chicken in it, couldn’t chew it and I took it back to the cart requesting to recook it. Waited for another 10-15 mins and unfortunately it was the same again. Not sure if the chicken was of bad quality or what was the issue. But I ended up throwing the entire meal!

Simply made, but amazingly authentic South East Asian with a focus on Thai. There are some more popular dishes, including Chinese, sprinkled in the menu, but I can’t speak to those as we haven’t tried them. When in Rome, or at the Roman foodcart, I’d stick with their strengths.

So, I’m usually in the area for my little dude’s soccer practice once a week. And if it’s my turn to make dinner, I stop by these guys. For a food cart, they easily beat any Thai restaurant in the West Linn/Lake Oswego area. Probably beyond that. Both my wife and I have traveled through South East Asia, and this food is totally reminiscent of street foods there. They don’t skimp on ingredients like local restaurants. We had the larb and pad woon sen yesterday, and you can see and taste the galangal and lemongrass. So good.

Lastly, this couple is some of the nicest people I’ve met. They’re honest about their food and the limitations. I asked about the mango sticky rice, and the cook said that they are not quite sweet yet since it’s out of season but she compensates with the coconut milk (still delicious, but yea, she was right about the mangos). I asked about the summer rolls, and they said that they don’t stock up on those (unlike sadly how they’re sold in the markets) so it will have to be made to order, which took more time. I don’t often see that level of transparency at the restaurants, much less food carts. Have you had fresh summer rolls that hadn’t cooled or dried to a rubbery hardness? You need to.

Alright, I might have overcompensated for the dude with the 1 star review below, which I’m now is convinced is from the Thai cart right next to these guys.

Some of the best food I’ve had in Portland. We tried a tofu with peanut sauce dish that was amazing and a spicy chicken dish with a fried egg and it was also incredible. Totally our favorite at the food carts.

Best boba tea EVER.
Typically when you get a blended tea, the surface of the tapioca pearl freezes over and turns crunchy. I certainly don’t like that. At Cha Ya Kitchen they use fresh tapioca pearls, the perfect amount of syrup, and the drink is never too sweet. They have exceeded in all the good boba tea factors and I am looking forward to my next visit

I had the tofu with peanut sauce and broccoli and rice. It tasted super delicious, but made me feel terrible, so I’m guessing there was MSG in the sauce. If you are sensitive to MSG, I would ask for ingredients before making a purchase here.
