I got a turkey sandwich on sourdough with provolone cheese and the house dressing. Great sandwich! There was a little too much of the house dressing for my liking, but still delicious! The house dressing has a mayonnaise taste rather than the advertised mustard, still nice! Great selection of potato chips and small desserts. I had a chocolate chip cookie. Also delicious! Will definitely be visiting again to try their soups!

After taking my daughter on a tour of UVA, we stumbled upon Take It Away Sandwhich Shop. Let me premise this review by saying cold sandwiches are usually low on my list of things I’d like to eat. The flavors on the typical cold sandwich are, in my opinion kinda boring. Sadly, I will now be craving the Elliewood Club sandwich. We live seveal hours away. This sandwich was SO GOOD. It had excellent flavor! The roasted tomato and their house dressing gave it a great burst of tangyness. The sandwich includes
Honey turkey & baked ham with cheddar cheese, romaine lettuce, roasted tomatoes, red onions, applewood smoked bacon on multigrain wheat. If you like club sandwiches, do yourself a favor and order this sandwich. They had a great chip selection, soda options and a really cold a/c. What’s not to love? Everyone in my family loved their sandwiches, even my picky teen.

I saw this place last week when I was walking around one day after hours and thought to myself that I wanted to stop in sometime. Then a friend told me that he really liked it so that piqued my interest more.
When I got there a gentleman was talking people’s order on his hand held PDA. Very quick and told me when I was ready he could take mine. My sandwich was ordered, paid for and done in less than five minutes.
I was given a paper bag with the two halves of the sandwich wrapped in paper and held closed with masking tape. Nice and friendly, I thought. I couldn’t wait to get back to my makeshift hotel/office and opened it up right away at one of the counters where patrons can sit. Wow, this sandwich was good. Roast beef on rye with their secret sauce, and pickles. Also came with an extra side of sauce. Very tasty and worth trying. The sandwiches are ordered a la carte where toppings and cheese are extra. With pickles mine was $8.
I’ll go back soon to try other variations.

Waited an hour for my sandwich, had people getting their orders before me, even though they got there significantly later than me. Very clearly do not have a system for getting orders out in order and efficiently. I had to go back to the cashier twice to get my order made, and it was messy and poorly made (looks like they were in a rush to make them), seemed like they just completely lost my order. Happened to other people waiting as well. Not going back, wasted so much of my time

Great sandwiches and super quick. Maybe a bit expensive for a sandwich but so is everywhere nowadays

I was at UVA and wanted a local quick lunch. TIA had good reviews so I tried it. It was the late lunch rush and they were busy. My order was mixed up and I had to ask for it, after many that had come in after me, and got their order well before me. The sandwich was very good. And the bread was good tasting but the crust was a bit hard and took a lot of chewing. Overall it was a good sandwich. I don’t understand those that say they are high priced it was , less than $8.50 including tax in 2024. It’s not a giant sandwich but it was less than $10. I’ll try it again and see if the bread is more to my liking texture-wise. I’ve had better sandwiches but it’s a better sandwich than the big chain places and less expensive. I’d say a solid 3.5 maybe a 4 if you really like the bread or their house dressing/sauce.

Best sandwiches maybe ever. And lovely staff. Whole wheat or french bread, pastrami-spiced turkey, cucumbers, sprouts and house dressing. Love in a foil wrapper.

Our car club was attending an event and picked this shop to order and pick up lunches for everyone on the way. The sandwiches were above par and fresh however the service (phone) was less so. I called to get the required information to place my order and my perception was calling was not their favored method of communication. I understand that the proximity to an active college campus can be daunting and create a bustle of activity but a customer is still a customer whether in person or on the phone. The person to who I spoke was short, bothered and very rude so much so that I was concerned I would not get the order I had placed and paid for the previous day. Again the food was quite good, freshly baked and with premium ingredients but the customer service was severely lacking. Recommended if you’re a fan of Seinfeld and want the whole “no soup for you” experience but if you are a discerning diner who relishes service as well as substance, look elsewhere.

Great little deli in historic Charlottesville, you have to try their famous sauce.

I honestly don’t know how this place stays in business. Undiscerning college kids? They can’t get an order right to save their lives. The tuna and chicken salads are way over-seasoned and drowned in mayo. I love how they go on about their house dressing. It’s nothing special, basically mayo mixed with dijon or brown mustard. Also, no standard toppings. Tomatoes are roasted in lots of oil, red onions instead of white, etc. Finally, most of the breads have tough crusts that are very hard to chew. If you want a great sandwich in town, go to Ivy Provision or Market Street Market.
