I ordered a vegetarian dish at Tawa Kitchen, since I am a vegetarian. Despite this, the meal I was served, contained meat.

This is completely unacceptable. For vegetarians, this is not a preference that can be brushed off — it is a fundamental dietary requirement. Serving meat in a vegetarian dish shows a serious failure in kitchen standards, food handling, and staff awareness.

I took a photo of the dish as evidence. This mistake could have been avoided with even basic care and checks in the kitchen.

This experience has completely eroded my trust in this restaurant. If you are a vegetarian (or have any dietary requirements), I would strongly advise being extremely cautious or avoiding this place altogether.

On a Friday evening, we decided to visit the recommended Tawa restaurant. We were not disappointed. On the contrary, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, the way it was presented, the interior decor, and the incredibly friendly staff. Delicious! Especially the dessert ! – mmmmm. Thank you!

We enjoyed a wonderful evening at Tawa restaurant on Feb 7th 2026.
The Chaat with kale was very special with the Aubergine and Onion Bhaji delightful. We all had different mains with rices and sides and all left feeling we had found a diamond amongst Cambridges many restaurants. We will definitely return. Highly recommend this restaurant which is only 2 mins walk from cambridge railway station.

Freshly cooked food tastes okay . But Rotis and Naans are CLEARLY made from frozen.
Roti Tasted like eating dough. Better eat somewhere else where they actually bother to make fresh breads.

Chicken biryani is below average. Don’t fall for the trap. Biryani is much better in other Indian restaurants

This was our second visit to Cambridge and Tava Kitchen, and once again, it did not disappoint! Our first experience left a lasting impression, so we were eager to return. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed, and as we had booked ahead, they promptly asked for our name and seated us right away.

The service was excellent, with the waitresses being attentive and friendly throughout our meal, making the entire dining experience pleasant. The food was served in good time, and we went for the Tikka Masala, which we requested to be spicy – and it was spot on! The curry had exceptional depth of flavor, hitting all the right notes and really awakening the taste buds. The rotis were a perfect complement – light, fluffy, and served warm. We prefer them over naan as they are less filling but equally delicious.

Overall, the atmosphere was cozy, and the dining experience was consistently good. Tava Kitchen is definitely a place we will return to when visiting Cambridge again! Highly recommended.

– Taste 9/10 I got Chicken Masala and butter nan and both are good; Authenticity 8.5/10 by my Indian friend; Service 6/10 A little slow and hard to call but staffs are nice, we didnt get water until we asked for it (5 mins after food came); Cleanness 10/10; Portion with the price 6/10 it is pricey with the small portion, My friend suggests that it would be good place to bring a date as it kinda pricey and dont have to eat a lot; Vibe 7.5/10 Good vibe in general but not giving India vibe, Signal is very low to none here but there is free wifi that you can ask.

Was a bit of a letdown.

We went in without a reservation and were promptly given a seat and a high chair. The service was nice and quick even though the place was very busy. The ambience was quite nice.

We ordered chicken biryani, tariwala gosht, Malabar paratha and masala chai. The paratha and the gravy were excellent, but the lamb pieces in the gravy didn’t feel great. The chicken biryani was also quite average. The tea was the worst, the spices were too much and too wrong, felt like an Ayurvedic concoction.

Overall, not too bad a place if you order the right dishes. But there are better Indian eat-in and takeaway restaurants in Cambridge at a better price point.

Lovely and attentive staff. Great food altho the salmon starter was overcooked for my wife’s taste. The ‘scotch egg’ could be spicier and the mains were gorgeous! The pastry topped biriani was a bit of a surprise and enjoyed. (My garlic Coriander nan seemed undercooked). V nice purple carrot halva! Full on a Thursday evening and pretty noisy. A good evening for 7 bods well worth repeating! Highly recommended!

Awesome value and healthy hearty food for lunch. Will come back for lunch and probably dinner soon and often, even just for takeaway 🙂 The convenient location is a plus, though there are many other higher end or family style Indian restaurants in town.

The chaat is so much larger than the waitress’s gesture suggested. Definitely not an “extra” as stated by the menu either. I was ready to go for a pricy snack but received big plate , there must be a can of chickpeas . Very good value. I am stuffed. This alone can be a meal, and it tastes wonderful. Creamy chickpeas and crispy kale and noodles. And the sweet sour tamarid chutney sauce tastes wonderful with a hint of spiciness.

The side salad is also substantial. Instead of a few green leaves on the side, it comes as a bowl tightly packed with shredded veggies, cherry tomatoes, radishes, and pomegranate seeds! The citrusy dressing is very refreshing. Probably the best “side salad” or “green salad” I’ve had. ❤️

The lamb wrap has a good balance between meat and veggie. Mildly spiced. The wrap is soft and stretchy… though I hope it can be toasted a little warmer. Will try the express thali and curry and biryani next time.

Seems to be a quite popular lunch place for those working in the nearby offices. The stews on the stove look nice.

2nd visit

Invited a friend to try the dinner here. The portion is surprisingly smaller than lunch, and my favorite salad doesn’t seem to be here.

We had a lamb and a chicken dish. Following recommendation I ordered the more spicy chicken chenttinad—only a warm hint for me but tasty. Tariwala gosht appears similar. It has a more pronounced cardamom flavor.

Thepla is quite rare in restaurants, pliable and goes well with the food. The flavor isn’t as strong as the ingredient suggests.

Butter naan comes warm 🙂 crispy outside and soft inside. Not too greasy.

Kulfi has a small amount of pistachio and more rose petals. Not too sweet. Cardamom gives a complex flavor to it. I probably have never tried Kulfi in American Indian restaurants, so the recommended flavor is good—mango one might taste like frozen mango lassi.

Ambiance-wise, some background music could help. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable.
