First of all, the place is big and modern (which is different for me since I like the holes-in-wall Mexican food places). They played Mexican music, had Mexican rodeo and futbol on the monitors and the service was friendly and food arrived quickly. All pluses for me.
I had the Burrito Bandera, which is a huge burrito with steak, chicken, shrimp, and sauteed mushrooms. It comes “mojado”, or wet, which means sauced on top – and they gave both red and green sauce, which is why I ordered it (I am from New Mexico after all). I also asked if they had a house salsa, very spicy, and they did, which I also covered the burrito with. So flavorful, and the extra sauce helped especially because the ingredients were a bit overcooked, (for my taste), and needed the extra moisture. The proteins were seasoned well, and I had the bonus of rice and beans, guacamole and sour cream, shopping with Pico de Gallo. ¡Muy sabroso!
My wife has the Mexican Salad, which came in a regular bowl (which she prefers, since the tortilla bowls in most places are old). Very nice presentation and she loved the black beans and corn, although she felt there should have been more of that to balance the lettuce. It had a guacamole style sauce, which she also loved.
Another bonus, which many places don’t have, is a full cooler of beers, and some on tap. We both had draft beers, mine a 16oz and hers a 22oz (mmm hmmm).
The final key to knowing this place is good and mostly authentic is the clientele. There were other Spanish speaking people eating as well. Always a good sign!
Do I recommend? ¡Si, claro!
My husband got tacos. Birria and Al pastor. Both were great! The green salsa that comes with them has a really nice heat to it. (Also had cold boiled carrots and grilled onion to garnish.)
I had Birria nachos with grilled peppers and onions. Chips were still cold, unfortunately. My meat tasted a bit like pot roast. Tasty though.
The only disappointing thing for me was the cold chips and no margaritas! But other than that, very pleased. We will definitely be back.
Starting off with the service, we were greeted in a friendly manner. As we were trying to decide what to order, the young lady we were greeted by, gave great suggestions. She even encouraged us to try the fruit juices we originally were going to pass on. One taste of the melon juice and we were sold! Every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious. We will no doubt return. We just found our new favorite eatery.
I had the Texas Fajitas, and it was outstanding. We also had an order of the Maduro Plantanis. Excellent!
Thought I would add to the above. It’s rare for a restaurant to evolve well, but the place just keeps getting better. Food quality remains excellent and service is even better. This is our new favorite Mexican restaurant.
