Viand Café was the perfect breakfast stop. The pancakes were great, and the breakfast sandwich on rye was delicious. Super quick and easy for anyone staying at Hotel Beacon. Our server was incredibly friendly and helpful, making it a great start to the day.

Quite expensive for the price – we got four small pieces of fish for the fish & chips, which was $28. French fries made up the bulk of dishes and were below average. However, the fish itself was tasty. The other dishes we ordered (Cuban sandwich, matzo ball soup) were similarly pricey for the quality, but the ambiance and service is good.

Family friendly restaurant with great food options. I loved the city diner vibe with the great service. Although it wasn’t busy when I visited, it looked like it had the potential to get there quickly. If you’re in the area I would definitely recommend stopping in for a quick bite

I am a NY diner (aka “Greek diner”) aficionado. I grew up on Long Island and waitressed my way through college at a diner in Nassau County.
Sadly, many of these diners have closed, which is a great loss. Happily, Viand still stands as a shining example of a classic diner. The service is warm and friendly and the food is honest and straightforward. It is well-prepared and well-presented, providing excellent value for money.
The staff is great. This is in contrast to other diners (I won’t name them), which know they are the only option in the neighborhood and customers are made to feel as though they are lucky to be waited on.
To visitors: skip the Starbucks and Le Pain Quotidien at head to Viand. It represents the best of what NYC has to offer. BTW, I don’t know the source of their bagels, but they are among the best in the city.

Viand Cafe is a comfortable and functional spot that handles the essentials without truly distinguishing itself in any area. Food, service, and atmosphere all sit at a similar level — adequate and pleasant but lacking the spark that turns a decent cafe into a memorable one. It works well for a casual meal or a quick coffee stop, and the overall experience is consistently agreeable. A little more personality and care across the board would help Viand really come into its own.

Typical American restaurant, like in the movies. Excellent service, kindly and always taking care of your needs.
A little bit expensive, but worthy.
I was there for breakfast and you get sweet and salted one.
As a tourist, I recommend it!

Overall love this place. You won’t find a better “regular” Diner/Coffee Shop. It’s not trying to be anything that it’s not. We come all the time and we are rarely disappointed. Excellent diner food. Matzoh ball soup is absolutely delicious. Bagel & lox is fantastic. Love their omelettes. Love their salads. Delicious coffee. (Negative: We were disappointed with the apple pie – very mediocre.) After the recent renovation, the place looks great! Service is efficient and friendly. Nice outdoor seating when it’s pleasant weather outside.

My 12 year old went for pancakes that cost 22 dollars. I bought all the ingredients and made them for less!!! Then the waitress demanded a tip when he didn’t have any money left. 33 dollars for pancakes and milk shake. Milk and flour!! Don’t go!!!!

We ate here 4 years ago when visiting NYC and loved it. Now, it’s still a great place for any meal, and we’ve eaten here for all, including brunch. Tonight, we had dinner consisting of meatloaf, the turkey and quesadillas. Very large portions for not an astronomical price. The service is friendly, professional and efficient. Very highly recommend.
