Small restaurant nestled in a strip mall off the main drag in Gunnison. Food was mediocre but I probably threw them a curveball by ordering vegetarian. Veggies were oozing butter. Depending on who one may talk to that could be a good thing but it was off putting for Mexican cuisine. Very friendly staff however and full offerings of adult beverages. We showed up past happy hour but they still extended the prices.

Sometimes you just find a gem. I ordered fajitas because it is a safe bet at many restaurants. The seasoning in the chicken was outstanding; loved it. Later the host brought me some hot sauce that he recommended. It was hot, but rich in flavor, so good! I’m not great at guessing flavors but it seemed like adobo and chipotle had a spicy child. Even if the food was average, it wasn’t, the people made it great! Good luck Agave.

The food and service at Agave Mexican Restaurant were so terrible that I can’t fathom how they manage to stay in business. It’s possible they rely on unsuspecting victims like my group and me, who were simply passing through town. The fact that the restaurant was nearly empty should have been a warning sign.
It took an excruciatingly long hour to receive my grilled chicken “salad” ($16.95) which turned out to be an unappetizing concoction with chicken that tasted like wood chips, all drowned in an excessive dollop of sour cream atop plain romaine lettuce. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for any animal or plant that sacrificed its life for this dismal dish. The tortilla soup ($11.50) I ordered would lose in taste to a 99-cent canned soup from Walmart. I would compare its flavor to a salty dish water. Unfortunately, my friends’ “meals” were equally disappointing, and the service matched the low quality of the food.
In all honesty, you’d be better off grabbing something from the freezer section of a gas station. My strong recommendation is to steer clear of Agave Mexican.

Safe yourself a trip or go somewhere else.
I feel embarrassed to give a review but if it help others…
I ordered *The Carne Asada* and orchata water. Everything was flavorless, beans were dried, the guacamole and lettuce was already dark, the orchata tasted like water with cinnamon, and the Carne asada itself was raw.
They serve a big plate with low portion but spread out over the plate. I will not recommend this place.

Awesome service! My waiter was actually voted best waiter in Gunnison; I noticed the sign after I sat down. Their house margarita is the real deal— no wonder they get so much traffic on the weekends! The decor is fun. Definitely the best Mexican place in Gunnison, and one of the better Mexican places in the area.

This restaurant is trying to showcase Mexican food but I can say that I have tasted better food, the dishes look delicious, but the taste is totally different.

Unfortunately, this place is terrible. The food and service were very poor. I feel bad, but they are not professionals at all. Overall, if you want to enjoy this beautiful area, avoid this place. I feel bad posting this comment, but I hope the owner will do something to improve his business. I pray that in the future, this place will get better because everyone has the right to prosper and I am sure the owner wants to do good with his business.
