Food is very appetising but I find it not spicy enough.
The Lemon Iced Tea used Jasmine based tea which I didn’t quite like. It was not stated on the menu as I would not have ordered that.
Ordering is by scanning the menu which can be switched between Chinese or English. In English mode, choice of Less Salt, Less Oil, Less Spicy was still in Chinese. Staff helped to translate for me.
Pork Belly skewer was a bit too thin. I preferred the Lamb ones which was listed as ‘Beef’.
Eggplant and Braised Pork with Preserved Vegetable were good. I got more hungry as I ate them.
Sichuan style Chive n Pork Dumplings were juicy.
Will come back again.

Kuan Zhai Alley is a popular attraction in Sichuan province, and this restaurant serves very authentic Sichuan dishes. The portions are large and extremely delicious and spicy. The interior is clean with great decorations, and the staff are very helpful. The eggplant is a MUST TRY, one of the best I have ever had.

The restaurant has a clean, structured layout with a modern feel, and even during the Thanksgiving rush, service remained efficient. The menu leans into classic Sichuan dishes, executed with a level of authenticity that stands out. Highlights include the shiso dry-pot frog, the stir-fried pork kidney, and a rich pork-feet soup—each deeply seasoned and true to the cuisine’s character. These are the kinds of dishes that make the restaurant worth returning to, even after a busy holiday crowd.

Wow! We had the best time at this restaurant. Our server, Kent, was absolutely awesome—friendly, funny, and full of great recommendations. He made the whole experience even better with his jokes and upbeat energy.
Now, about the food—amazing! If you’ve never had authentic Chinese food, this is the place to try. My favorite dish was the fried tripe, and a close second was the sauerkraut fish—both bursting with flavor. Whether you’re feeling adventurous or just want a great meal, this spot is a must-try!

The food is really good. Just a heads up for spicy choices – they are HOT! My husband enjoyed all the dishes. We ordered the duck soup, fried rice with vegetables and beef with cilantro – all delicious! Service was courteous and friendly. Very helpful with first timers like us. The ambiance is quiet and relaxing.

This place is great for super authentic Sichuan food. I went for the dry pot and was not disappointed! Super flavorful, tender beef and just the right amount of spice. The decor is super modern and done well. My only critique is that when we arrived the waitlist for a table said 10 minutes and it took 1 hour to get seated! That said that was likely a software problem so perhaps not the restaurant’s fault and hey the food is amazing so it was worth the wait.

We haven’t visited Kuan Zhai Alley since they opened a few years back, but we’re so thankful to have made the return visit. Maybe it was the specific dishes we ordered, but we haven’t enjoyed a Chinese meal this memorable in quite some time…and that’s saying a lot with all the options in Irvine! The restaurant was packed when we arrived during the dinner hour, but we were seated at one of their few outdoor tables after a short wait.

We started the meal with my daughter’s favorite – West Lake Beef Soup. If you like salted egg, then the Crispy Japanese Tofu with Salted Egg Yolk is a must-try. We’re also fans of spicy dry pots since they combine multiple items into one dish, so we tried the Fatty Beef version which included thinly sliced beef brisket, onion, potato, and lotus root, wok-fried in a Szechuan dry rub seasoning. For a more balanced meal, we added a veggie dish which was their seasonal and one of my faves – Ong Choy. We closed out our dinner meal with the Ice Jelly with Brown Sugar. Every dish was so flavorful and unforgettable…I can’t wait for my next visit!

Kuan Zhai Alley is a must-try if you’re in Orange County and love authentic Chinese food. The flavors are rich, bold, and true to traditional Sichuan cuisine. I highly recommend trying their fresh fish dishes and seasonal vegetables—everything is cooked to perfection and full of flavor. You can customize the spice level to suit your own taste, which is perfect if you’re not used to the heat. A fantastic spot for a comforting, flavorful, and truly authentic Chinese dining experience!

The place is incredibly clean and updated, with a modern vibe that makes dining there so comfortable.

Ordering is so easy—just scan the QR code at the table, browse the menu, and place your order right from your phone.

Food: The variety of dishes was impressive and authentic. We tried the Chengdu Dan Dan Noodles, stir-fried vegetables, garlic cucumber, fatty beef soup, and Japanese tofu egg. The stir-fried vegetables were perfectly seasoned, and the garlic cucumber added a refreshing crunch.

We ate the Japanese tofu egg with rice and stir-fried vegetables and it’s the bomb.

The service was attentive. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic Sichuan flavors!

Great little place right next to Los Olivos apartments and Promenade apartments.
Dandan noodles: it was good, but these didn’t come dry, which is what I would have expected. Not gatekeeping dandan noodles though- there’s no wrong way as long as the noodles are chewy and it has a lot of flavor. I just wish it were a little spicier. 4/5
Eggplant: not much flavor and slightly overcooked. I would have preferred it more savory and more spicy. 3/5
Wood ear mushrooms: simple and perfect balance of subtle flavors. It didn’t wow me but at the same time, there is nothing I would have changed about it. well executed. 5/5.
Scallion fish: absolutely loaded with flavor yet well balanced. a true testament to this dish. Well done. 5/5.
