I was surprised when I ordered a half of a sandwich, they pulled a pre-made sandwich out of a refrigerated case. The sandwich was cut in half and served cold including the bread. Having just returned from Florence, Italy, I guess I was expecting a freshly made sandwich with fresh bread and made to order. I was disappointed. I think they could do a lot better. Otherwise, it was nice and quiet inside. Nice atmosphere.

Ive known about this place for years but never tried them till 6 months ago. They were really good! Now i go there every couple months just because im trying to be less spendy. Lol. I get the Hoboken with extra onions. Its enough for 3 meals for me, but since the cut it in half, i eat it for 2 meals. The bread is great when its fresh, but a bit hard after being in a fridge overnight. I do wish they would offer sourdough as an option. The sandwich is delicious and the shop is clean. The staff is friendly enough but stays focused on their work. They offer online ordering and payment so i can just pop in and grab my order without any downtime. I want to try their other sandwiches but i tend to stick to what i like. It makes it easier to not have to decide between too many options. Def worth trying them. All feedback from friends and people i meet has been positive.

I got the Caprese sandwich and potato salad to go. It was ready fast. Good price. And the potato salad might be my favorite ever. I liked the flavor and they put pickles in it. Thank you for a good meal Gaetanos!

Had a fantastic Mother’s Day lunch here. My husband had the Pastrami and I had “The Goat” Vegetarian sandwich with delicious goat cheese. The bread was soft and chewy (OMG! So good). The atmosphere was fantastic. We will definitely be back.

I’ve been coming to Astoria monthly for work trips for the past few years. I have always looked forward to coming here, until my most recent visit.
Before ordering, I used the restroom (which is located around the corner in a separate entrance) after a long drive. When I came out, a staff member immediately confronted me and said the bathroom is for customers only. I explained that I was about to order, as I always do. The interaction felt unnecessarily confrontational. Even after I clarified, she continued to correct me and repeat that I needed to order first as they need to keep track of who is using the restroom. It was all about what I (the customer) needs to do for them. There was a complete lack of understanding for the customer POV.
As someone from the service industry, I found the exchange was not handled properly regarding customer care. It felt more like being scolded than welcomed, which left a bad impression. I still ordered food after, but tried to eat it fast just to get out of there. The experience made me not want to return. I’m bummed because it was my go to spot in town and the food is still great.
A simple solution—getting a key for the bathroom like other restaurants —could prevent confusion in the future while keeping people that aren’t customers out.
Overall, the customer service during this visit was disappointing, unwelcoming, and like they don’t care about their customers.

My husband and I stopped here on a roadtrip home from the Oregon coast. I got the Italian and my husband had the Meatball Sub. It was absolutely delicious. The bread was so fresh and soft. The man working at the cash register was so friendly. It feels great to support a local business who takes pride in producing high quality, fresh, and delicious tasting food! This will be our new go-to stop whenever we’re passing through!

This is a very cute shop with a lot of nice Italian imported food products as well as deli food. The people working were nice and service was quick. I will say that there is room for improvement on the sandwiches. I had the astorialetta and the bread missed the mark. It seemed to be a ciabatta, but was dense and stale tasting. The sandwich also appeared to be premade instead of made to order and came with a thick coating of clear oil on the bottom of the sandwich. It was tasteless and colorless so I’m assuming not olive oil. I think if the sandwiches were made to order and used different bread, this would be a five star experience in my opinion.

Capturing another fun market with delicious and custom created sandwiches and other divine dishes. We custom ordered and shared a pesto-pork sandwich on a foot long ciabatta bun while hearing a fascinating story about eating out in Italy (there are “food police” who ask for receipts to make sure it’s all “kosher” for tax purposes). Wonderful employees (owners?) who were happy to create whatever we wanted; a sweet, quaint atmosphere and delicious food with fun, unique foods and other purchasable products such as gourmet chocolates, kitchen gadgets and ready-made foods like pasta salad, egg salad and clean salamis (no nitrates). Definitely worth going to!

Update August 2022:
Love the store and love the sandwiches but don’t like how it’s getting more expensive. It’s starting to feel painful in my wallet to come order a sandwich … especially when we’re then also expected to add a tip. I hate it how the payment screen gets flipped to me to “finish the transaction” (read: add tip). This is not sustainable.
Where are the times where tipping was meant for waiters and service personnel who did something extra for the patrons? Why are we now also supposed to tip when we go order takeout (bakeries now also expect tips when you go buy a bread). What’s next?…tip when we go to the grocery store?

Love the vegetarian Caprese sandwich. Finally a place where we can get some of the famous, healthy Mediterranean diet!
Wish they offered more vegetarian/pescetarian options.
