Great BBQ spot, my go-to after a round at Charlie Yates. Great service and a unique and kitschy vibe. Both bathrooms have a different theme, try them out! The food is spectacular, I have been around most of it and no notes. Brisket tacos were a recent special, and they delivered. Great beer selection if you are a fan of cheap canned beer from the Northeast, like I am. Narragansat ale for $4? Yes, please! They have a bunch of frozen cocktails, and stay on brand throughout the menu. You gotta check it out for yourself, you’ll love it.

We ordered takeout and got the half rack of ribs, and they were incredible. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. I especially loved the fresh-made tortillas that come with the ribs, along with the pickled peppers and pickles. Everything tasted fresh and well thought out.
The potato salad was phenomenal while still being a simple, classic potato salad with pickles, which I really appreciated. We also tried the mac and cheese, and it was simple but very tasty.
Overall, a great takeout experience and definitely something we’ll be coming back for.

The decor and atmosphere is amazing along with their super attentive and quick service. My cocktail was fantastic (whisky smash, I think) and I enjoyed the food overall. My favorite was the mac and cheese. I just wish everything was a lot warmer/hotter.

Eclectic atmosphere, friendly service, delicious food. We sat at the bar on a Friday night and the service was attentive and quick. The frozen cream slush drink is phenomenal. They’ve got a nice beer list, my only knock is that I wish they had something on draft. The food was so good I didn’t mind drinking canned beer. I had the brisket Philly sandwich – meat was cooked well, perfect amount of cheese, and the bread was soft enough that it didn’t collapse but it wasn’t too hard to cut up the roof of your mouth. My wife also loved her pork banh mi. After we ate we both said we wanted to come back to try the rest of the menu. Gene’s is officially on our ATL restaurant return to list to

Great first experience at Gene’s! We went on a Saturday night and got seated right away on that patio (which is a nice atmosphere next to the pink pit). Our server was super friendly and took great care of us.
We started with the frozen hurricane and the margaritas…. And the fish sauce wings which were incredible and I’d come back for those alone.
The main course was the brisket cheesesteak which had a really awesome flavor with the pickled peppers and the waffle fries.
But the star of the show is the banana pudding. Even if you think you don’t like banana pudding, just order it. It’s that good.
Great atmosphere, great service, and great food. I highly recommend this place to anyone.

Food was not good. Staff was very friendly and the place was so cute, nice vibes; didn’t get the chance to change the music. The ribs were tough but seasoned, the macaroni was cold in spots, and the fries were okay. The only thing we liked was the banana pudding (if you like a lot of bananas, you won’t).

highlights: pulled pork & pitmaster fries
the tofu banh mi was just okay, it was the only vegetarian option that wasn’t $20 but i’d rather order the cheese pitmaster fries next time. also the mac & cheese and greens were weirdly sweet

I genuinely want to give them a 4.5. And the next time I go it has potential to be a 5. The thing that stood out the most was the service. We were constantly checked on, explained the differences in their sauces, and brought some other house-made.
I think I just ordered wrong and my party agreed that we want to go back and order their more unique items. I didn’t love the beet salad and their Brussels sprouts were oily sadly. I LOVED the bbq with coleslaw. We liked all their sauces! White Alabama was overall the table’s favorite.
The vibe was great and definitely will be going back!

Opening night absolutely killed everything! Ambiance was so on point and made me feel like I jumped back in time a few decades, haven’t seen a CD jukebox in a minute. Meats and sides were so delicious I can’t wait to come back and try everything else. Would recommend the brisket, ribs, and boudin! Potato salad, mac & cheese, beans, cucumber salad, and waffle fries were
Cocktails are super tasty and beer was cold and crisp! Staff are friendly, helpful, and superb customer service. Great spot for a date night, dinner with the family, or just to grab drinks with friends! You can tell heart and soul went into that place, great addition to the East Lake neighborhood! Keep up the good work y’all!
