Stopped in with the family while passing through Iowa City. Came based on ratings and was not disappointed. The food was so delicious. We tried plantains, pupusas, and tamales. Staff were friendly and very attentive, helping us pick a good variety of dishes to share.

First timer to El Salvadoran cuisine and wasn’t expecting any different than Mexican, but was full surprised by uniqueness, freshness and presentation. So tasty, colorful and eye catching food. Spicy ketchup was a kicker to add extra zing to the food. Amazing interactive experience with the chef who was very helpful explaining and of course visual right next to menu was great to know what to expect. Fabulous small cosy place that everyone should try this yummy food!

Tried Salvadoran food for the first time and it was pretty good! The passionfruit juice drink was super refreshing and delicious.
Tamales were pretty good. Decent amount of portion for the price.
Super quick service and friendly owners.
There was no AC in the restaurant or it could have been down the day we went.

Great restaurant, will be coming back! Extremely friendly and welcoming, they were very happy to teach us about their cuisine and give suggestions! Definitely recommend! Good food and great portions for the price, you need to try a main dish and a pupusa at the very least! Small inside, but quick service and a fantastic menu to choose from, I thought the mint lemonade was worth getting as well.

No kidding, EVERYTHING at this place worth you trying! If you want a casual dining experience with terrific food in south Iowa City try Mesa 503. I lived in New York City for two years but I don’t think I’ve found better Salvadoran food there

I’m not exaggerating when I say this was one of the best meals of my life. We got papusas, the pollo creama, tamale, and the plantain. Each item had its own distinct flavor. The plantains were cooked perfectly. I’d eat here once a week if I lived in town. It’s a must stop!!!

I love trying different types of food and have never had Salvadoran food before. This place was great! They don’t have a big seating area but wait to dine in. It is worth it. We ordered a couple different things to try while sitting eating. Everything we had was great! Top notch place and top notch people.

We ordered a couple of revuelta pupusas, a couple of garlic and cheese pupusas, a pork tamale, horchata and an order of plantains. The pupusas were small and not very flavorful. The sauce was just like strait tomato. They didn’t give very much repollo either. The tamale was authentic in that it had a large bone in it, but we didn’t really enjoy the flavor. Plantains were quite good actually. Best crema we’ve had in the US for sure! The horchata was also pretty tasty.
Expect lower portions for the price and less flavor when compared with other pupuserias in the area. We much prefer El Gustitos.
