Reviews
The food is just ok, but not too expensive.
Taking off a couple of stars because the single-user bathrooms were not designated as all-gender. This would have made someone who is gender-expansive in our party to feel more welcome, and we would be much more likely to return. It is also required by California Health and Safety Code section 118600.
Mostly a local spot. At least that’s the vibe. Came in during basketball playoffs. Warriors already finished earlier in the day and some dudes were posted up just talking sports drinking beer.
I just waned a quick beer and an order of chicken wings. Got a laguanitas 20oz pour. Prices are fair. The only thing is they brought out “boneless” chicken wings. ordered bone in. It is what it is.
Definitely a quick stop in kinda place. Maybe the other stuff are better.
UPDATED UPDATED REVIEW:
Ordered: #51 Garden burger, #46 Porky Pig (w/ extra patty (+$4) & extra bacon (+$3)), & large fries to go.
I feel weird updating my review so often, but here we go…
The #46 only comes with 2 small pieces of bacon, so I figured I would order with extra this time. I ordered it, was charged for it, but I didn’t receive it. Ordered straight from the menu, it should have more bacon on it if it is a bacon cheeseburger. It’s like getting a mushroom burger with only 2 slices of button mushroom on it.
I also still have to order the tomato & lettuce on the side (to keep the bun from getting soggy). Even so, the #51 had it on it today, but the #46 had it on the side.
Another thing that strikes me as odd is the inconsistency with packaging to go orders. Sometimes I get the small white to go boxes for the burgers, today I got both in brown rectangular boxes. Fries seems to be typically in a bag, but today they were in the box with the #51. Sometimes the lettuce and tomato on the side are wrapped in aluminum, plastic wrap, sandwich bag, or (today) included in the brown box. The #51 was wrapped in decent quality paper, the #46 was not wrapped.
Also, I went on another occasion. Ordered the French dip sandwich for someone. I was told the sandwich was great, but the au jus was not recommended.
I’m going to keep coming back because the burgers & the fries are good. Due to the lack of bacon on a bacon cheeseburger, the au jus, order inaccuracy & packaging inconsistencies I’m going to dock from food & service
UPDATED REVIEW:
Ordered: #45 Chubby Checker with large standard fries to go.
Raised the rating 1 star. Got the burger with the tomato & lettuce on the side. Was told it was much better & the bun wasn’t soggy. Fries were cooked great. Everything was hot & approved by the hubby.
OLD REVIEW:
Ordered: #45 chubby checker (double cheeseburger), steak fries (lrg), curly fries (lrg), onion rings (sml). I didn’t customize any of the items I ordered.
Subtotal: $30
Time: around 1:30pm
Atmosphere: Less than 10 customers. A lot of 50s diner themed decor. Great customer service.
Food overall: All of the food was hot. 3 out of 4 items were correct. I was given sweet potato fries instead of onion rings I ordered. Husband said the price is a bit higher than the quality, but he would be interested in going back.
Burger: He enjoyed the burger, but he said he would have preferred if the tomato was on the side (as advertised), it made the bun soggy.
Fries: Curly fries were a tad over & steak fries were a tad under, but both were pretty decent.
Looking at the situation we wanted to leave as even coffee wasn’t available, so when we asked the guy to cancel our order (after ordering it 2 mins before) he refused.
We ordered garlic fries and we weren’t told that they’ll charge us for a large portion (The quantity wasn’t enough for us to know which size it was) It wasn’t properly communicated at all. So when the bill came we were surprised. Overall food taste was good but service and value for money was really disappointing. Felt like waste of money for the way we were treated in the restaurant.
My husband’s fish and chips were good, but I couldn’t eat my clam chowder because it had bacon in it. The turkey burger was tasteless and the texture was of a frozen patty. My chocolate shake was good, but I had ordered a malt.
I appreciate the employee who was working, he was very friendly and apologetic about the soup. Restaurant was clean and more modern than the original, still a lot of great memorabilia to look at.
All-in-all we will stick with coming here strictly for breakfast. (And maybe for fries & shakes, too!)
