I hadn’t been to the Gran-View in a while. We happened to be visiting in Ogdensburg and decided to stop in. The chicken Marsala and salmon were delicious. We were privileged to meet Chef John and hear his story of how he arrived at the Gran-View!! Our waitress, Michelle, was efficient and very personable!! All in all a wonderful evening!! Thank you!

Last night marked my inaugural visit to Gran-View on the River in Ogdensburg, NY, and I can confidently declare it the premier dining destination in the North Country. If you haven’t experienced it yet, make the trip—it’s worth every mile. And if a previous visit left you underwhelmed, return; the transformation under the new executive chef and his team has elevated it to excellence.
Our meal featured appetizers like succulent duck wings and golden mozzarella in carrozza, fried to perfection. Entrees included bourbon steak tips in a rich, smoky sauce; a juicy, herb-infused pork chop; and tender chicken Marsala in a velvety mushroom-wine sauce. Desserts were a creamy pumpkin cheesecake, decadent spumoni tortufo, and refreshing mixed fruit and berry shortcake.
Every dish was a masterpiece—expertly cooked, artfully plated, and bursting with flavor. I searched in vain for any flaw; everything was executed with precision and passion.
The highlight was Executive Chef John VanKennen’s personal touch: He mingled with guests multiple times and even delivered a special dessert for a young girl’s birthday—a rare level of hospitality in the North Country.
The breathtaking St. Lawrence River backdrop, with ships gliding by, turned the meal into a scenic escape.

We have been going to the Grandview for years. We are seasonal guest & always look forward to their excellent service & hospitality. Tonight was a special treat ! Ordered two of the evening specials and they did not disappoint! The elk medallions were tender delicious and cooked perfectly. The panko crusted Walleye was delicious accompanied with a unique Sriracha tartar sauce.Both presentations were excellent! The vegetable side of green beans were cooked to perfection and a beautiful shade of green.
Very impressed with the fact that the Chef comes around and checks to make sure you are happy with your meal. He is a real professional and it shows ! Finally the pumpkin cheesecake is superb! Very happy experience and highly recommended!

We have never dined here before and we were delighted with our experience. The food was exceptional! The chef John came out to meet us. Our meals were delicious and the gelato was rich and so flavorful. We highly recommend the Gran View restaurant and plan to dine again when we return to the area. It’s a gem!
