We were seated and given a couple of menus. Once you know what you want you go back to the counter where you were initially greeted and give your order. We were given a number and set back to talk about the day.
Our food was freshly prepared. We ordered a 10” Hawaiian pizza and a Burrito Mojado. Our server was very friendly and pleasant to speak with. The food was very delicious!! The chef deserves a lot of credit for the meals he or she prepared.
If we ever pass this way again, it’s a guaranteed stop. Kudos to everyone from owners to your culinary team.
Also, they have a hotel attached to the restaurant that is great and priced cheaper than most hotels.
Atmosphere=amazing
Service, here’s where I falter giving them a 5. I know it’s “deli” style. This means you order at the counter and your food and drinks will be brought to you with a number. The issue is with this place is that when it’s busy that becomes difficult. The food has always been great. The place is well put together, awesome atmosphere with great tiling on the ceiling, great tables, music, books and stuff for the kids in the corner etc. The main issue is the ordering counter, that when it gets busy is small, due to structural constraints as its a thin hallway by the registers. They work around it the best they can. None of this is due to the staff, they work hard to deal with this. If you go when its slow you won’t deal with it. And it will be an amazing food experience. But standing and trying to get a drink while people are coming in and waiting and others trying to order food in such a small area isn’t great. I like the smoked meat on anything they offer, my favorites are the Mac and cheese brisket, and any burrito or chimi with the cheese on top. Employees are top notch and do their best with the layout. But its tough when busy. Its legit food, and a bar, but tough to get served when busy.
We tried the taco sampler and every single taco was fantastic, but the standout for me was the pork—perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor. We also ordered the brisket and ribs, and wow… both were smoked to absolute perfection. Tender, flavorful, and easily some of the best barbecue I’ve had in the Midwest.
Barbacoa is incredibly easy to get to—just a quick turn off I‑94, no hassle. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this place is 100% worth checking out. Great food, great service, and a hidden gem for anyone craving legit BBQ and tacos on the road.
