Reviews
Mee goreng (malaysian noodle dish) was quite possibly the worst malaysian anything I’ve ever tasted in my life. It was worse than the worst Chinese noodles even.
Bulgogi fries (korean dish) was marginally better in taste.
Unagi hand-roll (Japanese sushi dish) was one messy bundle that a Walmart sushi counter would be ashamed to sell. Tho taste wasn’t horrible.
The variety of cuisine offered on the menu should’ve alerted that despite the ratings the quality is unlikely to be high.
Very disappointed.
Do NOT recommend to anyone looking for decent food.
It’s rare that a first-time visit completely knocks it out of the park, but this place is doing something special. If you are a sushi lover, stop reading this and just go.
The Starters
We kicked things off with the Tora Poke Tuna appetizer, and honestly, I could have ordered three more and called it a night. The fish was incredibly fresh, perfectly seasoned, and had that melt-in-your-mouth quality that sets great sushi apart from the “just okay” spots.
The Roll Breakdown
The sushi rolls here are creative, generous with the portions, and—most importantly—high quality.
• Tuna on Tuna Roll: For the purists who can’t get enough, this is a masterpiece. Double the tuna, double the flavor. It really showcased the freshness of their catch.
• Queen Charlotte Roll: I’ll be honest, I was on the fence about the strawberry salsa. Fruit on sushi can be a gamble, but trust me: it is a must-try. The sweetness of the salsa cuts through the richness of the fish perfectly. It’s a total flavor bomb.
• Carolina Roll: I really liked this one, though it’s definitely the “indulgent” choice. It’s fried and features cream cheese, which I loved, but it’s worth noting that it’s quite heavy. If you aren’t a fan of tempura-style or creamy rolls, it might not be your vibe—but if you are, it’s a home run.
The Verdict
The atmosphere was great, the service was attentive, and the food was phenomenal. It’s safe to say I’ve found my new favorite spot.
1000% will be back to see what else they have up their sleeve!
The egg rolls were not even hot when I got them. I had to go to chipotle because the California roll I got was not good and I think I could get a better California roll at the grocery store. I tried this place based on the reviews, but I have to give my honest review of this place.
The only thing we’d adjust on our next visit is to ask for lighter sauce, just to better enjoy the fresh flavors. Highly recommend this spot!
My boyfriend and I had a great experience at Tora Izakaya! They have such nice staff here who are friendly and polite. All of the food was neatly prepared, came quickly, and tasted fresh. We ordered the crab ragoons, miso soup, yellow jacket roll, Thai tea, island boy roll, and the shrimp tempura ramen. The ramen had the classic dehydrated ramen noodles which is probably why it is cheaper but it’s a good bowl of ramen! Ours came with roasted corn, bean sprouts, seaweed, fish cakes, a whole soy egg, and green onions. The crab ragoons had pepper which was nice but it was a little too much. Shrimp tempura was a nice crispy panko breading. Fish in the sushi was extremely refreshing! Personally I think they have a large menu with very unique sushi roll toppings and worry they won’t be able to keep everything in stock if other people don’t come and fall in love! I do like that they are very unique without being crazy rolls. They have a full service bar and offer cocktails. They have house sake and draft Sapporo which are two things I would typically order from the bar. They have really good prices on a lot of things but the nigiri price is a little high. We are excited to come back and try more things!
This place is truly a Gem. The noodles.. ramen…fried rice…hibachi and sushi are so well flavored and seasoned. They never disappoint me. Definitely added to my favorite places.
I recommend to anyone to go give it a try you won’t be disappointed. I almost wanted to keep this to myself because when places that are great and start to get a lot of recognition and business they start to decline in service and quality. I truly hope this is not the case.
The staff is excellent and food so fresh and great!
