The entire soup was mostly broth with a few mushrooms and only two shrimp. The shrimp were small and did not seem like black tiger shrimp but did appear like generic white shrimp. It seemed mostly to be a tasty pint of broth and not something that I’d not recommend.
The Dim Sum was pork and vegetable. It was very good and I recommend this dish.
We reserved a spot but we wanted a bar seat so we gave up our reservation. A few minutes after getting there it was very very busy and online reservations were 2 hour wait, I believe it because it was that good to drawl the crowd. Definitely will be back and ordering even more delicious food.
Went a cold Sunday night. It wasn’t too busy and we did not feel rushed out but were able to enjoy our meal and have unhurried conversation.
I will say it was a very odd experience entering the restaurant. We walked up steps and there was a door that seemed like it could be the main entrance but nothing outside showed that it was the main entrance. As soon as we entered we felt as though we were in the way of others and also kind of intrusive to the family eating directly next to where we entered.
I will state that the staff here is very pleasant without being overly attentive. The first issue was having a menu with some rice on it, which stuck to my finger. Check, check, check them. We started with Coconut Shrimp and Spicy Fried Calamari served with a sweet sauce. Both were cooked perfectly. Good crunch on the shrimp and a thin coating on the Calamari, although I did not find Chili Peppers and only a couple of green onion pieces.
For our main course, we ordered the Crispy Duck and Teak Trio. Unfortunately, the meals came out before the appetizers were done. Here is where loss of control takes place. Never rush an order out to get to the next one. It’s about the customer enjoying a meal, not woofing it down. The Teak Trio can be ordered for a range of spice levels starting at 3, which was ordered. It was much higher. We’ve had food that left lips and tongue numb, but the trio was far higher than 3 and could not be eaten or enjoyed. This happens when you rush food out with numerous variations and control and quality checks breakdown. A spice level of 3 would have been half the paste used and mixed better. I also noted that the trio came out with that drying look as it sat too long waiting for the duck.
The right thing was done as the trio was replaced with a Broccoli Stir Fry, which was very good. The trio was removed from the bill. The duck was crispy but overcooked, leaving the meat a tad dry. The vegetables were done well, and the sauce is quite good. The sticky rice was done to perfection.
We may try here again, but there are other local establishments where these issues have not existed.
Sushi was absolutely delicious. Spicy tuna roll and the Bike Trail roll. Amazing
Pad Thai was amazing with generous amounts chicken. Pineapple fried rice was packed with flavor and amazing as usual! Side note, spice level 10 is no joke, too much for me but my husband loves it for this dish. Service is always great and the atmosphere is on point.
On one visit, my wife and I had dinner at the bar. It was a summer night, and they had the large window open to the deck. My wife ordered a summery drink which included pear juice, I believe. It came with a fruit fly floating on top. When we pointed it out to the bartender, he brought another drink with ANOTHER dead fruit fly. When we pointed this out again, he insisted that it was not a fruit fly but, rather, “a seed” (with wings and legs). We watched him make the drink and saw that the container holding the pear juice was a small open pitcher sitting out under the bar, unrefrigerated, uncovered, in the summer time, WITH THE LARGE WINDOW OPEN. “Seeds” must have drifted in through the window.
Another disappointing visit came recently when I ordered the crispy duck (which was WONDERFUL the night of the unfortunate fruit fly incident). The duck this recent time was so dry, I couldn’t get a fork into the outer slices. My guess is that it had been prepared a day or two earlier — maybe even frozen — and stuck in the microwave. I wasn’t going to say anything, but, when the waitress asked how everything was, I thought the management needed to know that shoddy food was going out, so I pointed out the dried up duck. The waitress came back after speaking to the manager (he did not come to the table himself) and she relayed his BS explanation that the duck had “tenderized too long” since we were visiting at the end of the week. WHAT??!! Tenderizing results in DRIED UP meat? So much for the manager taking some constructive criticism to avoid similar quality problems. To add insult to injury, they offered me a $3.90 discount off my $27 entree — since I had eaten “most” of my meal . . . Yeah, the veggies, rice, and the 50% of the duck that wasn’t inedible — because I was hungry and we were out with friends.
We will be back, and I will order the duck again — because I LOVED it the first time I had it. But, if it comes out like it did this second time, I will not touch it and I will be updating my review.
