Amazing Chettinad food in Clayton! Authentic South Indian flavours, rich spices, and perfectly cooked dishes. The ambience is clean, calm, and welcoming, making it a great place for family dinners or peaceful dining. Highly recommended for true Chettinad cuisine lovers.❣️❣️I loved that place and I am recommending to everyone visit there.

Good place to try south indian (Tamiz) cusine. Variety of items and all are great. Briyani is a must try and curd vada too.

4.2 rating at the time – definitely a little overcooked.
I’m by no means experienced with Indian food so I’ll be factual.
Prawn Chettinadu (“chef’s special”) $22 – 7 prawns only, mildly spicy but way overly salted. Didn’t finish the curry.
Butter Chicken $16 – thin, watery consistency. Classic flavour was there but felt a little weak.
Kerala Parotta $3.50 ea – dry, stale, tough. It tasted exactly like it had been sitting out for half a day.
Chicken Biryani $16 – the chicken was so dry I thought it was bone. Photo included. The dish felt like the rice was just mixed with spice paste and left over chicken.
Stop cheating people and take care in your cooking.

We had a very disappointing experience, especially considering it was a Sunday evening when you’d expect better service. Surprisingly, they were only offering a buffet, but when we arrived, there was hardly any food available at the counter. We had to wait for at least 30 minutes just to get some curry, and during the entire time, only one staff member seemed to be managing everything, from attending to customers to refilling the food. There was no pieces in biriyani and in goat curry. It was chaotic and poorly managed. This is the first time in a long while we’ve encountered such poor service and lack of organization. Definitely not what we expected, and sadly, we left quite frustrated.

We planned for Sunday dinner buffet. Surprisingly they said it was anniversary special and unlimited meals. The price was higher than buffet cost. We went in with high expectations. But were disappointed. We were group of 9 but couldn’t be seated together. Only curries with 1 piece meat was served. 1 piece starter. The service took time which is understandable. In the picture menu, fish fry, prawn, chicken 65 and all is shown but we didn’t get it. It was like they were managing with left over from lunch. If they were genuine at least they should have reduced the price as some items were not served at all. Overall it was not worth the price $32 per person when compared to buffet.

The food was so authentic and loved the taste of the Paya curry especially. Fantastic service and very warm staff at the restaurant. The biryani was just amazing and reminded me so much of the Ambur Chennai biryani. Must go for South Indian food lovers

We recently visited Clayton Chettinadu Restaurant and had a great experience. The taste was very authentic and balanced — unlike many other places, the food was flavorful without being overly spicy. We ordered the masala dosa, and it was perfectly cooked with a generous filling. The sambar and chutneys were fresh and delicious, complementing the dosa really well.

Also, a special thanks to Scherryl for the warm and friendly service — she made our visit even more enjoyable.
Highly recommended if you’re looking for genuine South Indian flavors in Clayton!

Recently visited Clayton Chettinad, the food was amazing, we ordered mutton biryani so flavourful, the best biryani in Melbourne, I would say, Goat curry was so delectable. Service, hygine, atmosphere everything was up to the mark. Overall, can’t get better than this. Food 10 out of 10. Highly recommended.

01.11.2025- Most of the menu was not available, tables were not clean. Chapathi was thick and hard to chew, Veg thali was the worst of all, was too salty and didn’t know what sweet it was but tasted bad. Chicken chukka didn’t smell good.

Firstly background to me going to this restaurant. I have been eyeing this restaurant when I came across this place via Google as they server lamb trotters (Aatukaal paya) and Brain masala with authentic South Indian style briyani. I have been in Australia for 18 years and yet to find an authentic restaurant to make briyani like back home. However I was busy with work commitments, weight loss journey and recently Lent fasting. So as a treat, I finally decided to go here for their famous lunch buffet while dragging my friend who is a wonderful cook.

I did call in advance to book the table and also enquired if I could order the additional dishes la carte which they said yes. As my temptation and craving was getting worst by the day I was worried my expectations will not be met.

Boy oh Boy was I wrong. Food was authentic, constantly topped up keeping the food warm and fresh with wonderful staff who were working hard to meet everyone requirements.

We entered while the restaurant was packed with only one table left which was reserved for us. They were prompt to give us baby chair and take my additional order. Mind you, at this point I haven’t seen what dishes are available in the buffet. The lovely gentleman with bright red sneakers came back to me advising that lamb trotters were already part of the buffet today and hence no need to order separately. If anywhere else, people would have taken advantage off and charged me extra. Simple things like this made it even more special.

First my friend got her food and next thing she was in heaven. I was in tears having the food I hadn’t had since 2003 and brought back memories of home and my mum’s cooking.

I have lived in Australia for over 18 years now and hence my palatte has changed to eating less spicy food. So it was natural for me to start sweating and had watery nose but that didn’t stop me from having the ever so delicious food. Worth the wait and what a wonderful way to break my Lent fasting

Kudos to the chef for not changing anything to suit Australian palatte and keeping it real.

The host was a gorgeous lady in a wonderful blue saree with a big smile and very helpful. After a wonderful lunch I needed more, so ended up ordering lots of take away for my friend and myself to indulge for the rest of the week. While we were at the end of our lunch, this beautiful lady brought the bags packed the way I had requested and was so sweet with the Bubba we had in tow.

All in all, an unforgettable experience with exceptional hospitality. From the bottom of my heart, I wish only the best and more success so that they can grow and expand into a bigger place without compromising the food which is what made it stand high and above all the restaurants in Australia.

Thank you once again for making us feel welcome into your home and serving the food from back home without compromising the taste. Can’t wait to visit again.
