Reviews
You don’t walk into Habanero’s expecting a life event. You walk in thinking, “I’ll just grab something quick.” Next thing you know you’re sitting there ten minutes later wondering how a simple taco managed to restore your faith in humanity.
The chips arrive warm, the salsa has just enough attitude to keep things interesting, and the tacos are the sort that require a brief moment of silent respect before you pick them up. Everything tastes like someone in the kitchen actually cares about what lands on your plate—which, these days, feels like a minor miracle.
It’s the kind of place where the menu is big, the portions are generous, and nobody is trying to reinvent the tortilla. They’re just making really good food and sending people back into the world slightly happier than when they walked in.
And Coronado, being Coronado, has its share of polished, beachy, perfectly curated spots. Habanero’s is something better: unfussy, reliably delicious, and exactly what you want when the craving for tacos hits and patience is low.
Five stars for flavor.
Five stars for speed.
Five stars for the quiet confidence of a place that knows exactly what it is.
If you’re lucky, you’ll leave with salsa on your shirt and absolutely no regrets.
We ordered 2 California burritos and I’m sad to say they were mediocre. Don’t get me wrong, they’re huge burritos, but not much meat and they were super soggy. We even ate them in front of the shop, so there’s no reason for them to be so soggy. You know when you get to the end of the burrito and you can’t even hold it anymore because it just opens up on the bottom and juices get all over your hands? Yeah, that was our experience. Couldn’t even eat the last 4 bites so I just gave up.
I know they just opened a few days ago so I’ll give them a second shot but I’d recommend to the owner that it’s ok to make the burritos a little smaller but just don’t skimp out on the meat. It’s 80% french fries and sour cream and hardly any meat. Also, fry up the french fries longer. You want a little crunch to them especially if you’re going to load up on the sour cream. $16 is on the high end, so don’t be too cheap with the carne asada, especially when you’re having to compete with the other nearby places that sell the same and don’t skimp out— Night & Day cafe, Clayton’s, the new Crack Taco spot, just to name a few.
I’m making a detailed review because I’m really rooting for you guys. Coronado really needs a better taco shop!
One other positive: horchata was on point
Delicious!!
It’s cheaper street-like food with good quality raw materials, the flour tortillas were fantastic, best in class. I’m no expert of fish tacos, so I’ll reserve my comment, but the pastor has great flavor, not the best in the world, but like I said it is nest you can hope for in the area.
It is exactly what they advertise and promise, nothing more, but most importantly, nothing less. I really appreciate when restaurants over deliver on their promise, which doesn’t happen very often, and this is definitely one of those rare places. Congratulations to the entrepreneurs, keep it up, you have no real competition on the island.
