We had an incredible time at The Burren House Irish Pub & Kitchen! The atmosphere was buzzing….absolutely packed….yet it still felt cozy and welcoming, like stepping into a true Irish home away from home.

The food was seriously authentic. I opted for the shepherd’s pie, which was hearty, flavorful, and perfectly comforting. Other popular dishes we saw coming out of the kitchen included the fish & chips, bangers & mash, and the beef Irish stew…all looked amazing and are worth trying on future visits. They also serve a traditional Irish breakfast that regulars rave about, and the corned beef Reuben and Burren Burger are favorites for pub fare.

Our waitress was from deep Southern Ireland, and her warm personality and genuine accent added a worldly charm to the whole experience. It made the night feel even more authentic and special.

Between the lively crowd, the friendly staff, and the seriously Irish food, The Burren House instantly felt like home. Whether you’re craving comfort classics like shepherd’s pie or looking to explore Irish staples like curry, stew, or a proper Irish breakfast, this place delivers. Highly recommend for anyone in San Rafael looking for a true Irish pub experience!

What a wonderful, warm and fun restaurant! I loved that they were willing to participate in the Marin Vegan Chef Challenge, and they did a super job. The waitstaff were so friendly and helpful and enthusiastic! The food was really good – I particularly liked the new appetizer “charred cauliflower” and really enjoyed the tofu coconut curry as well (would have loved a few more veggies in there!). I’m not usually a “Shepard’s Pie” fan, but they did a great job with that too. Thank you, Burren House!

The Burren House is a great addition to downtown San Rafael and does a great job with some proper Irish hospitality.

The pint of Guinness is good (by American standards very good) and they have a great selection of Irish whiskey for your sipping delight.

We had a snack of some meatballs when we were there and they were very good. Nicely seasoned and pretty tasty.

If you’re looking for a little slice of the Emerald Isle in Marin County this is the place for you.

Love this place!! Great energy, great food and great drinks. Absolutely loved the award-winning vegan shepherd’s pie! Loved that they have several vegan options. This place is busy and loud, but full of people having a great time, enjoying great food. The service was wonderful, even with them being slammed.

We were really impressed by the decor of this Irish pub. We decided to check it out for breakfast after hearing great things about the food and service. While the atmosphere was fantastic, we’d rate the food and service around 7/10—perhaps it was just too early for them. We’ll definitely give lunch or dinner a try next time!”

I dined here a few months ago with a family member. Just a month ago my wife and a friend dined at the Burren also. We all had the same experience. Very noisy even though we had all asked for a quiet table. We all had the fish and chips. It came with a huge slab of fish instead of a few smaller pieces as would be normal. The batter was soggy not crisp. When my wife complained she was told that was how they always prepared it. None of the four of us are in any hurry to dine here again.

Absolutely such a delightful Irish pub! The food! Excellent! The service, excellent, the music was irish and the facility is gorgeous! A must go to. We had the Reuben and the chicken curry, very delicious! Their drinks are yummy too!
Will have to come back to try the rest.
Mike at the bar was very knowledgeable and super helpful.
Dez was also a delight! They have a great team here, come out and support them!

One of my new favorite places. The atmosphere is great and has always been lively the times I’ve visited. The bread is addicting and I love the potato cakes. So nice to have this gem close by.
