I haven’t been to Blimpie in a very long time. They basically disappeared over the years. But I’m at sure glad I stopped in today.
The young man working was very polite. He made some great suggestions when I asked him what he recommended. He said the Italian sub wouldn’t disappoint, and he wasn’t lying! He sliced the meats fresh for my sandwich (what sub chain does that!?!). And the price point is where it’s at! This is a hidden gem. Forget the other sub shops, go out of your way to come here instead!
Thank you for the amazing dinner tonight! Will be back very soon!

I haven’t had Blimpie in almost 20 years. They’re hard to come by.

I used to get the Blimpie Best so that’s what I went with for this order. It’s just like I remembered. Delicious.

The guys working the counter were really nice.

This location is in an odd spot. It’s on a strip mall very much out of the way. Plenty of parking. Plenty of seating and space inside. Calm atmosphere.

Blimpie is the best sub shop. Leagues above Subway and also better than Jersey Mike’s. My favorite is the Club on Cheddar Jalapeño bread, loaded with veggies, with a splash of vinegar, and heated up on the grill. This was my lunch for 4 years while I was going to University of Hartford and I would visit the old Bloomfield Copaco location daily (shout out to Ning and Billy!). So sad that so many of them have disappeared. This is the LAST remaining one in CT and it’s a unique spot. I wish I could visit more often. I cherish it when I can! Go there and keep Blimpie alive!!

I just shared a message with my order complimenting how happy and good my past orders have been… until I opened up today’s order

Update:
The owner sent me some sad email about how this stuff just happens and I should just accept it and move on. I forgot that health hazards are not a big deal and shouldn’t be handled. Kinda sad because I actually really loved this place and was happy to give them my business. All the owner had to do was apologize, promise to do better and give me my $9 back… but nope. So now I’m pissed.

As I have started to explore the Windsor, CT area, I was delighted to discover a way to sandwich that I have not experienced in a long time. Not since I lived in Florida many years ago have I come across a Blimpie sandwich shop. Wanting to relive my rookie sandwiching days, I decided to give Blimpie located at 1001 Day Hill Road a try. The following is a subjective review filled with mildly infuriating uses of the word sandwich that may leave you regretting that you didn’t stop reading now.

1. The Good.

I placed my order online and got the Blimpie Best with the zesty parmesan bread, standard toppings and added banana peppers. I also paired it with a bag of chips and a regular sized fountain drink. The store actually offers a wider selection of chips that what is available online and the friendly server gladly allowed me to exchange them for another flavor. The best part was that it was ready for me when I arrived. No waiting necessary.

The sandwich was good, it was made exactly how I ordered it. There were no weird center pieces of onion rudely introduced to the sandwich. Using the small center parts of onions on sandwiches is like making a sandwich using only the heels of a loaf a bread. It’s disrespect to the sandwich and the sandwicher.

The dining area was well kept and they have lots of seating available. The fountain drink dispenser was clean with lids and straws organized.

To finish this portion of the review, I would like to note that the prices are reasonable. Now I’m using this term rather generously and you may realize why after reading the next section.

2. The sandwich with a lower case “s”.

I don’t want to give anyone an inferiority complex about the size of the “s” in their sandwich. But let’s be honest, do you really want to eat a sandwich and be left wondering if there’s better out there? The answer is no, you don’t. You want a sandwich with a capital “S”. You want a Sandwich that He-Man could use to summon the power of GreySkull. A Sandwich that King Leonidas and 300 other Sandwich warriors could use to fend off an overwhelming army of hotdogs. Finally, (I promise this is the last one,…for now) you deserve a Sandwich that could clear up Interstate 91 southbound traffic into Hartford, CT on a Friday afternoon.

The sandwich I had at Blimpie was a sandwich with a lower case “s”. Now before you get mad at my repeated use of terrible analogies and swipe this review away to go back to mindlessly scrolling social media, remember, I said the sandwich tasted good. All things considered, the only thing that prevented my Blimpie sandwich from having a capital “S” was that I felt the sandwich was kinda skimpy. The amount of deli meat, toppings, and bread was, underrepresented? I believe you’ll find the photos attached to this review will give you a clearer understanding of what a sandwich with a lower case “s” looks like.

3. The “I see what you’ve done here and I’m not sure how I feel about it yet”.

Currently, Blimpie offers twenty two different sandwiches. That’s a broad array of sandwiching choices. But let me offer you this casual observation, three of those sandwiches are the exact same sandwich with a couple of different toppings. In particular, the Italiano Blimp, the Caprese Blimp, and the Blimpie Best.

Now, part of me considers this a brilliant marketing strategy to resell the same thing by adding pesto or some black olives with a catchy product name. Genius! The other part of me imagines I’ve just been lured into a sandwich shop with three gorillas and each of them has on a different color of lipstick.

4. The takeaway:

If you’re in the area and looking for a place to grab a bite for lunch, or a reason not to do the dishes because you’re hungry and alone, Blimpie is an option. But if you want to sandwich with a capital “S”, you may want to try sandwiching somewhere else.

The last Blimpies I went to was in the Bronx near the courthouse. Has a tuna melt sandwich like no other. Came here to this location, and it didn’t disappoint. Flavor and freshness were all there. Will definitely be making a trip back for more.

It’s subway, but cheaper. Really nice place to pickup a quick lunch / bite. Fast service, rather quiet area (quiet for an industrial park), and LOTS of parking. Ordering online is extremely easy and no additional fees for it. Recommend for anyone working in the area who needs a nice filling lunch sandwich.

Well, the staff was wonderful, the place was clean, the patriot pickles were delicious.. but I can’t get past the lukewarm sandwiches. You microwave the meat and cheese then put it on cold bread with cold toppings and it was like… Meh. Will have to go back and see if there’s another heating option, I did see they had paninis online but didn’t see it on the menu when ordering inside. The sandwich tho sadly was kinda weird, and for $38 for 2 people I expected better quality but like I said I only went once so maybe it’s what I ordered. Will ask for suggestions next time!

I used to enjoy this location very much until the management and staff changed. Went inside to place my order, the woman working was incredibly rude. The male that was working wasn’t wearing a hat or hairnet while dealing with the food. When I went to pay the female asked me a question about a drink. I figured she was ringing me up, however when I tried to tell her about another drink for the order she rudely says “I’m clocking out” I didn’t respond since I had already had it with her attitude. When we got home my husband was eating his sandwich he pulled hair out of his mouth!!! Surprisingly it was a black hair, that of the male who was not wearing anything over his hair. I see from other reviews this has happened to others. Disgusting. I will NOT ever go here again.

I always come to blimpies so this review is long overdue, but the sandwiches made here are just phenomenal. I just need to also highlight the amazing service I get from these two gentleman who work Monday and Tuesday nights and the other in the mornings as well. Top tier service and always get sandwiches made with care and love. These two need some acknowledgment, I’ll be coming back that’s for sure! I think there names were Che and Rafed. Keep it up Blimpies!!!
