I went in knowing I was going to get the steak tartare and Caesar salad to start and one didn’t disappoint. I’ll save the best appetizer for last SO for The Green Caesar with anchovy crouton crumbles was tasty but not my fav. Whatever made the Caesar dressing green, maybe it was pesto, was a bit off putting to me…. But I’m not a big fan of pesto so that’s likely why. Maybe if there was lemon or salt on top I would’ve felt differently.
Now the star of the show was the Steak Tartare Piedmontese with wagyu beef, hazelnuts, and black truffle!!! Know steak tartare is off putting to many but if you’re a fan, this was by far the best one I’ve had. The nuts provided a great texture and the creamy quail egg (when mixed in) balanced the rest of the flavors. I’ll come in again just for this.
As for my main I had 4 bites of the Chitarra Nero pasta with hot buttered crab. I really really wanted to like it but I didn’t. The crab was just too fishy and not seasoned. I wish I would’ve just stuck to my norm and got the pappardelle.
Also found it really cool that the artwork that was incorporated in the check, bar coasters, etc. was made by Robert De Niro. Just a fun fact I enjoyed learning.
So when we recently had a meal to plan in NYC, and were staying near Hudson Yards, it was a sure sign that we choose visit Carmellini’s newer Locanda Verde restaurant. And we loved every minute!
We visited on a cold Tuesday night in mid-December. The holiday décor was beautiful. And while the room was packed, the service was prompt and friendly yet professional.
My cocktail, a tequila concoction called “La Sporcarita” hit the spot, despite the cold temps outdoors. My wife and I shared a delicious Insalata d’Andrea, featuring Arugula, Apple, Almond, and Asiago.
Next, I devoured my plate of Chitarra Nero, with Hot Buttered Crab, Chili Calabrese, and Bottarga. Meanwhile, my wife loved “My Grandmother’s Ravioli”.
We read how it’s made with ultra-thin squares of pasta wrapped around a traditional filling of beef, veal, pork and a touch of Parmigiano-Reggiano… and prepared fresh for *every* service. Apparently, it is a classic Carmellini dish – and now we know why.
All around, a great visit. Hat’s off to Chef Andrew Carmellini as well as Culinary Director Josh Gripper, and the entire Locanda Verde team.
I will always come back for the incredible gnocchi and perfectly cooked steak — simply outstanding every time.
Thank you to the chef and the entire team for consistently keeping this place so amazing. An absolute favorite!
Highly I recommend this restaurant to my clients!
Thanks

The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and elegant, and the overall atmosphere is definitely a plus.
Unfortunately, we were seated right by the entrance area, so it was noisy with people constantly walking in and out, which affected the dining experience.
If you plan to visit, I’d recommend adding a note when making your reservation asking for a table inside or in the main seating area.
If I’m nearby, I might stop in for a drink, but I probably wouldn’t come back for a full meal.
Lamb Meatball Sliders
This was my favorite dish of the night! The flavors were layered and rich, and the meat was very juicy.
If I’m ever in the area in the afternoon, I’d totally grab a drink and order this again.
Daily Special: Scallops
It sounded amazing, so we ordered it. The flavor itself was decent, but the scallops were a bit disappointing, either not as fresh as expected or had a strange texture.
Crab Squid Ink Pasta
This was really good! The crab came in big, generous chunks, and the pasta had a perfect al dente bite.
Roast Chicken
I originally didn’t want to order this because roasted chicken is often dry (from my past experiences)
But our server confidently promised it was super tender, juicy, and not dry at all, so we decided to trust him.
The moment we cut into it… we knew that wasn’t true
It was very dry, even the drumstick was dry and the texture wasn’t particularly tender. Quite disappointing.
The seasoning was fine, but we didn’t finish it and ended up taking it home.
Since it was my husband’s birthday, they brought out mint ice cream.
The ice cream was surprisingly delicious and it’s one of my favorite flavors, and way better than the pistachio cake we ordered.
The staff are consistently kind, attentive, and competent, ensuring that service feels effortless and genuine. The pasta section stands out as a highlight—outstanding in quality yet rooted in comfort, offering dishes that satisfy both sophistication and familiarity.
Together, these elements make Locanda Verde Hudson Yards more than a restaurant. It is a destination where art, design, and culinary mastery converge, leaving guests with a lasting impression and a desire to return.
The food tasted great too. I’m a fan of squid ink pasta, and their Chitarra Nero was rich in flavor. (Some might find it a bit salty, but it goes well with table bread.) The texture of the noodles was just right, not overly al dente. The other dishes were also satisfying. The steak was tender, and the potatoes were crisp and well done.
There was also a nice little surprise: I came here to celebrate birthday, and for dessert they brought out a cute little cake with a lit candle. I have to admit, that gesture left a good impression on me. Would be happy to come back again sometime.
