Arrived to the lakeside establishment on a beautiful Saturday at 4:00PM when they opened. Sat at the bar, where the friendly staff took my drink order, handed me a menu and told me their specials. I went with their prime rib special that came with corn, baked potato, and I upgraded my salad to the optimus prime rib soup. My food arrived at 4:22, and the 16oz medium rare prime rib did not disappoint, it melted in my mouth. I soon found myself in a man versus food situation, but managed to clear my plate. I paid my tab, loosened my belt and hopped back on my motorcycle for a nice ride home. Will be taking another visit again, for sure!

I got a gigantic expensive ribeye and it was fine. It was good because it was a ribeye and it was cooked fairly well. One side did not have a sear on it. Broccolini was great. Potatoes were pretty good.
They did not salt the steak enough. This is a pretty easy thing to do, and its important to do before you cook the steak, because when you add salt after cooking you only get a surface layer of salt which has a different flavor.
Vibes were fun, would totally hang out here. Just wouldn’t get the steak again. Maybe a burger.
Also, they were out of soup and ice cream. And didn’t bring us salads.

Very popular place. Used to be IMO it used to be more focused on dining, with the bar secondary. Now it’s bar seems to be it’s prominent feature. It’s also added a gaming area. The quality of the food did seem very good and the service was also good. Very clean as well.

Whatever service/friendliness issues there were from previous reviews appear to have been ironed out, as every staff member was energetic and engaging. We were immediately greeted & seated with a lake view. Offered water while we selected drinks & given the details on the specials, which rotate.
We’ve driven by so many times without realizing what we were missing, thinking it was just a lakeside bar. I’m so glad we decided to swing in once hearing about the “not bar fare food”
Seafood in North Dakota, ehhhh, how brave do you feel? We started with shrimp stuffed shrooms. It only comes with 3, but they are piled high & tasty. It turns out we really didn’t need an app tho, as I’m currently eating my boxed up food while I’m writing this review.
I honestly haven’t been in such a personable place in a long time &, no, we aren’t regulars or locals. We were given a tip to come back for seafood Sunday- maybe… maybe…
The beef was all tender & juicy – cooked to a perfect med-rare. The hubs had the hanger steak & I opted for the lavash special- which was a BOGO – buy the Philly & get a seafood version free. Veggies were all fresh, no canned/frozen soggy stuff here, nice & crisp, plus house made soup… torttilla was the current offering. The seafood topping was impressive: 2 sizes of shrimp, scallops, crab & mussels
When we were checked in on, my response to “is everything tasting ok?” was simply “wow” with an “I know, right?” bounced back.
It’s definitely worth a stop. It came to just under $100 for the 2 of us with drinks, app, dinner & a FULL spare meal for us to split for lunch today.

A bit off the beaten path, but it’s definitely worth the drive. The pasta dishes are great, as well as the seafood. Angie took great care of us and made us feel at home

It was not very good the food. Waitress was wonderful and the waiter. No clue why usually have a great experience there. The steak was bad and the potatoes over a hour wait. Nope was not just us the waitress wonderful. We did not eat the steak two bites my husband took. The potato half was eaten. They took it off our bill we paid for our drinks they did offer to redo the food but it was 9:30 already so we said no. Again this is not usually our experience. Other customers waited longer

If I could rate it 0 I absolutely would. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant when I’m spending 100 bucks on a meal for 2 I at least expect the server to come over more than once to refill our drinks. I was there for two hours and maybe seen our server twice. She sat and didn’t do anything. My boyfriend ordered a prime rib rare (chefs recommendation) and it came out well done and a ribeye. We got attitude when we asked for a manager and one never showed up. Do not waste your time or money. Go to the harbor bar a few miles away it would be worth the few extra miles.

Great food options, outdoor deck with a view of Lake Sakakawea. Sunsets are a plus as part of the dining experience here. Friday Night Prime Rib Special was one of the best I have had and the Burgers are…well, just look at the picture!

Disappointing first experience here. Didn’t seem overly busy but did have to wait awhile for food.
The good: The steak was good. The beer was cold. The atmosphere is unique.
The bad: Our server didn’t know the difference between a prime rib and a steak. We paid for a prime rib and got a steak. Server said “we do things different here” and “on the ticket it’s a prime rib”. Doesn’t matter when you get a slab of meat with grill marks. Also, didn’t review the check before leaving since we had waiting a long awhile to get the check, and we paid for an extra drink that should have been included in my son’s order.
Long story short: this place has potential to be a cool unique experience with food options you don’t get every day, but unfortunately too many things went wrong on our first visit and we don’t feel like we got what we paid for.

The Iron Oar is an experience rivaled to no other! A must stop for the area, and a gem in our small town state. The menu is a more like a work of art, carefully crafted and well thought, and each dish has its own signature flair. Highly recommend the bloody Mary’s, nice tap list including some craft options, and ask for Annie’s Blue Drink if you’re thirst for something tropical!
My band MoonCats has had the opportunity to play music at the Oar for years, and we are always treated so well with generous hospitality. This place is family run and owned, and it shows. A local legend, you’ll have to stop by to get the full picture!
