I mentioned a dish I’d had on a previous visit, thinking it was on the main menu, but it turned out to have been a special. To my surprise, the chef insisted on making it for me anyway — a trio of fillet steak — and it was absolutely amazing.
The atmosphere was perfect: warm, relaxed, and wonderfully welcoming for a country pub. I honestly can’t recommend The White Horse highly enough. Thank you for a truly memorable evening!
Starters tonight were prawn cocktail topping with hot tempura king prawns, and scallops served with black pudding and pancetta.
Main courses were slow cooked shoulder of lamb, salmon steak in Thermidor sauce, and halibut in champagne cream sauce. All the main courses are accompanied by dauphinois potatoes, mixed green vegetables and chips (and extras are always offered).
We all chose affogato for dessert – espresso coffee and a liquor of your choice served over vanilla ice cream accompanied by an Italian almond biscuit with a chocolate cream filling.
Another excellent meal, thank you Michael, Elaine and all your staff!
The White Horse Inn is located in a gorgeous little village near Retford and is definitely worth a visit.
The staff are friendly and informative and work in a quaint old English setting with low beams and even lower door frames!
The range of beers and wines is excellent and something for everyone.
Where it comes into its own is when you go through to the restaurant.
The menu is simply fantastic and the quality of each dish we tried was magnificent!
My wife and I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world, including the Ritz in London and Gordon Ramseys in Las Vegas.
I can easily say that the quality and range on offer at the White Horse was as good as anything they could muster!
I’m shocked that they haven’t got a Michelin star above the door, but there’s time yet!!
Food is amazing, a good selection if dishes, all made while you wait if you want any changes you can.
Beautiful old building, with real fires. Nice and warm. Lovely staff.
Been a few times for the Sunday Dinner. Highly recommended for that.
Will now be my usual spot for Sunday Dinner
