We stopped by here tonight. We had a late lunch, so we wanted to get a few plates to share with everyone. We got the lamb awaze ribs and the cottage special zelzel beef tibs as well as the beef sambusa. Both tibs were flavorful and unique, would recommend trying. The beef sambusa was okay. We also got the Yemar Tej (Honey Wine), which was very flavorful. Would highly recommend getting a glass.

We had a party of 5, and there was an added service charge for the party size. I was not aware of this after I paid for the bill (including additional tip). Fortunately, the manager of the restaurant was very honest, polite, and professional. She quickly rectified the issue without any difficulty. Much appreciated!

On a cold Georgetown night, my cousin and I were out walking and decided we needed something warm — so we ducked into Cottage House Ethiopian Cuisine for a cup of coffee… and what an unforgettable experience it turned out to be!

This beautiful spot is the only Ethiopian restaurant in Georgetown and such a warm, inviting addition to the neighborhood. The atmosphere inside is gorgeous — cozy yet elegant — and instantly made us feel welcome.

I ordered an authentic Ethiopian coffee, and they didn’t just serve it — they presented it with a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, right there! They explained how coffee has deep cultural roots and is widely believed to have originated in Ethiopia, where the coffee plant (Coffea arabica) grows wild and where the legend of its discovery by a goatherd named Kaldi first began.

The ceremony was beautiful: from freshly roasted beans to the fragrant aroma as they prepared the coffee, every moment felt like a cultural celebration — not just a drink. Ethiopian coffee ceremonies are rich in tradition and hospitality, symbolizing connection, respect, and community.

On top of that, I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who was incredibly welcoming and passionate about sharing this cultural experience with us. That personal connection made the visit even more special.

While we only came in for coffee this time, I already can’t wait to come back — not only to try their Ethiopian cuisine but also to enjoy the patio area when the weather warms up. Cottage House Ethiopian Cuisine is destined to be one of my favorite Georgetown spots!

Highly recommend stopping by — whether you’re craving great coffee, authentic culture, or just a cozy place to unwind. ☕✨

This place is a hidden gem in a cool neighborhood in Georgetown. The service was friendly and warm. The place felt welcoming and like you’re dining at your families house. The food was outstanding with a perfect blend of flavors and spices. The smell of Ethiopian coffee in the air while sitting in the dining area was awesome. Loved everything about the experience at a very reasonable price. Well done, I’ll be sharing it with friends, and will be back when I‘m in town.

Beef Ribeye Awaze Tibs and veggie platter on a bed of injera bread was an excellent intro to the new Cottage House. New Georgetown spot in a very pleasant and cool setting, friendly staff and some of the best Ethiopian food I’ve had in the DMV (no small feat). Fairly wide ranging menu, would love to try more
