Really kind people running the restaurant, very friendly, clean and welcoming! The photos DO NOT do justice to the amazing flavors of all this food, every one of us loved our meals! And very decent prices for the fact that everything even the tartar sauce! was home made! Had a 25 minute drive home and the food was still hot!! I really like that they cook and fry all the meats/seafood per order so it was so hot and fresh even after the drive! Cannot wait to try the peach pound cake with a side of peach cobbler to put on top! We will definitely be back to try more of the options!!

Located inside of a truck stop (save ya judgement) this spot serves some of the best soul food I’ve had one since moving to CT and frequenting well established location. Two better than some standing locations I’ve frequented in NYC in my attempt to find an all around good restaurant. Besides the soul food provided by my southern roots. I grew up on the NYC soul food likes of Copeland’s a Wilson’s (IFYKYK).
This has been the closest to some of the best home cooked food I’ve had the pleasure of going to an establishment to purchase. Everything prepared and seasoned just right, not overly salty, yet flavorful. Portions plentiful, they don’t skimp on the sides.
Will definitely be putting others on to this hidden gem.
Polite and appreciate service was also a plus.

If you want a good soul food spot then you have found it with The Southern Tree! Do not be discouraged from their location as they are located in a small truck stop/gas station. The food here is amazing!! I’ve had their Mac n cheese, collards, jerk chicken, shrimp n grits, whiting and potato salad. There is nothing here that I have not loved. Besides the food, one of standouts of this restaurant is the staff. I was met with smiles all around and everyone was nice and accommodating!! I highly recommend! A++++++

Very friendly and warm welcoming family business at a truck stop, not exclusive with a huge sign but still very noticeable. Phenomenal hospitality and you can smell the food right before you enter. The menu is very simple to read and they will explain any you would have questions about.
My girlfriend and I stoped by to get some food, although I initially went for breakfast, I ending up with a big lunch and it was more than enough and well worth the wait and price as well. She also enjoyed her lunch with minimal to no complaints. Food fresh and hot, well seasoned and portioned. Will return to try other foods thank you for the services!. Shalore.

I saw this restaurant on TikTok and the woman trying the food was raving about how it tasted like a home cooked meal. Living only 20 minutes away, my fiance and I had to try it. So worth it! The chicken was delicious and juicy. My favorite was the mac & cheese and the two friendly guys working the front. Keep doing what you’re doing!

I’m from Miami and I traveled up to waterbury for work/Business and while I I’m up here, I was looking for a nice soul food spot to eat at because I really don’t have time to cook with all the crazy hours I’m working. So I went on google and looked up soul food spots near me and (Southern Tree) was the first to pop up and took that lil 6 min drive from my hotel and the first thing that hit me when I open the door to the restaurant was that good ol smell of some southern cooking lol. The staff greeted me and I explained to them that I wasn’t from the area and I was just looking to get some good food and they told me I was in the right place, and boy when I tell you they did there one two on the pots and pans mannnnnn. The food was great and it wasn’t a long wait time….. Mind you that was January 3rd and here it is January 31st and I’m still coming to get great food at least 3/4 times a week. So if you looking for some good ol southern cooking come visit this place and see for yourself and you will understand why I come here so much like do…. And FYI the customer service is A1 as well
