The chicken in most parts of my meal was raw. When I contacted the owner, he said someone would come to check before giving a refund. An hour later, he claimed the food was fine and suggested it was just “not my taste.” I went to the restaurant to show him, and as he tried the chicken, it clearly crunched—yet he insisted it was fine. When I warned I might get sick, he said, “you can’t get sick from raw chicken.” Completely unacceptable. I won’t return and don’t recommend this place to anyone. Being questioned about my taste after eating raw chicken was insulting, especially having visited many other Indian restaurants before.

I can’t believe I just discovered this place after living here for 5 years. It was so delicious!! We ordered so much food that the chef was confused when she was carrying out the tray, thinking it was the wrong table. Everything tasted so good! The waitress was very kind and helpful. The prices were good by Rotterdam standards. The service was fast, and the space felt cozy – lots of people came to eat who seemed to know the employees, which gave a friendly atmosphere.

Chicken was raw on the inside of most parts of my meal. Owner told me he would send someone to my place to verify before issuing a refund. An hour later he proceeds to tell me that there’s nothing wrong with the food and that it’s probably not to my taste. I go see him in the restaurant to make him try the raw chicken. As he tries it I hear a crunch of the raw chicken and looks at with me a straight face telling me it’s fine. I then tell him that if I am sick tomorrow because of his raw chicken that I would come back. He responds with “you can’t get sick from raw chicken”. Never going back to this place and I don’t recommend it to anyone. I’ve gone to many Indian places before so I also don’t appreciate being questioned by the owner that it’s “not my taste”.

Very nice curry for a very good price. 14 euros gets you a curry big enough for two to share. This is the real deal, dont waste your time on big chains that serve you watered down curry!

The food was amazing, but the customer service was even more spectacular! We ordered a butter chicken, palak paneer, dal makhni and a mango lassi. Highly recommend, we would definitely order again! Thank you for everything 🙂

Had a great dinner at Gate of India tonight. The food was really good and waitress Simi was very kind and very customer oriented. There’s a lot of choice in the menu as well and it comes with a fair price. Would definitely recommend to go here.

Try this restaurant once. We did twice (1st order on 17th Feb & 2nd order on 27th March). Food was delicious and hot as if we placed the order for dine-in. Even though we tried randomly (like once a month), just because of their consistency, I was delightfully writing this review. Taste your food again soon. Kudos to the whole team.

Sad to announce that Gate of India as we’ve known it is no more. A new owner, a new menu and absolutely nothing left of the quality that you used to get. Chicken tika, kabab karahi and aloo gobi all drawn in the same tomato sauce that had nothing to do with good Indian food. If the nice old cook of Gate of India is reading: we miss you!

This restaurant is a gem within the Rotterdam culinary scene. All the dishes are always prepared fresh so expect at least a half hour between order and serving but it’s worth the wait. Vegetarian and lamb dishes are great but with chicken they perform miracles
