What a fun (and yummy) surprise to happenstance upon this icecream shop little gem! It was SUPER busy when we arrived; however, the friendly staff kept the line moving well. The separate larger party room with a TV playing a football game was absolutely stuffed with people enjoying icecream after a ballgame.
Our cheerful and helpful server Celia ensured our sample requests were quickly and efficiently handled. I ended up choosing her personal favorite (coffee chocolate chip) with the French silk pie in the chocolate sprinkle bowl. The chocolate covered sprinkle bowl was very fresh, light and crispy.

A nice place to spend quality made ice cream. Staff friendly and took the orders with a smile. Prices are comparable and great selections of ice cream from rocky road, strawberry, cookie dough etc. I will surely come back.

It’s the first time I’ve been to a Handel’s and I am very pleased a buddy of mine brought me there for my birthday treat.
I feel that these folks serve up some of the most premium ice cream around. It’s at that Goldilocks zone where the consistency isn’t too airy, not too dense, but just right. I had the chocolate peanut butter brownie flavor and it was delicious.
The joint is kinda shocking in its decor, stark white and sterile looking, sort of laboratory feeling, but it works for me. It’s absolutely dead clean.
It’s worth your try if you haven’t been to one. I’ll certainly be going back.

My first time at this location. The place looked clean. There were so many people working behind the counter and the line moved quickly because of it. The staff was friendly too. Ill update on a second visit after I taste more than just a single bite of my wife’s scoop.

Today (02/22/26), Maxwell was the only employee working at Handel’s in Citrus Heights that I could see. I immediately noticed that after serving each customer—from preparing their ice cream order to completing the payment—he washed his hands before assisting the next person.
