Will say this place is okay for a date. If you are a foodie or crazy about sushi, the nigiri set is okay, quality is great but not impressive. The temaki was given a very heavy flavor source, not recommended. The salad and curdo is okay also very heavy in seasoning and sauce.
Overall, good for beer lovers, not for sushi lovers.

Completely lackluster experience. We had better sushi at the market on the way down to our reservation to compare, and pre-game. Wife and I have traveled the world and dined at Michelin restaurants, and street food stalls in a dozen countries. Beers were good but completely overpriced for dine in. Definitely would never come back for the food, but would get a 6 pack to go if I was in the neighborhood.

Classy spot! Went in a group of 5 which was perfect to share a bunch of small plates. I was most impressed with the vibrant flavors in the cucumber salad and corn gyoza but can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, especially the torched corn scallop. And we also loved the cocktails. Great atmosphere for conversation, busy but not too loud! I would come back in a heartbeat

I highly do not recommend the omakase at Moody Tongue Sushi. At $160 per person, the quality and experience fell far short of expectations.
The biggest issue was the timing; there were 10+ minute gaps between every course, making the meal feel incredibly slow and disjointed. Furthermore, the “16 courses” consisted of nothing but one single piece of nigiri per round. There was nothing extravagant or unique about the selection to justify the high price tag.
It is far too expensive for such a basic, poorly-paced meal. Save your money and go elsewhere.

The food was excellent and truly the highlight of the experience, Unfortunately, the front-of-house staff was disorganized and lacked basic knowledge of food, wine, and sushi service. One server said she would bring us soy sauce while another asked if we wanted any, showing a lack of communication. One server asked if we are interested in beer and we said no, but then another server came and pushed beer on us even after we declined. Neither could suggest a dry white wine which is the most simple request of all time. I had to select something familiar off the by the glass list, only to be told we weren’t allowed to taste anything, which was disappointing. We were ready to order a $30 glass of champagne but settled for something cheaper since we could not taste or smell the wine to see if it is our style and the servers were not confident the champagne was dry. I’ve never encountered this kind of refusal before especially from two people who seemed to have zero wine knowledge. I’m not saying anyone needs to be a sommelier but if you’re not allowing me to taste the wine, you should be able to at least tell me if it is a dry wine. The hostess also seemed brand new, speaking loudly about late reservations and sounding unsure of how to handle it. When the late guests finally arrived, they were taken to a back room we hadn’t even been told about. After asking, we found out it was a martini and hand roll bar, which we would have loved to experience. Discovering it after being seated at a regular table, away from the chef, made our experience less enjoyable and honestly at this point we wanted to leave. With just one manager with some restaurant experience, this place could improve significantly. I might not return, but I would still recommend it for the food, especially for a casual night out.

Moody Tongue was excellent!! My friends and I got a great people watching seat against the window and made it right in time for the tail end of happy hour. We got the happy hour nigiri roll which happened to be salmon, and it was excellent. We paired this with the two different gyozas on the regular menu which we also loved! For my main dish, I got the spicy tuna nigiri roll which was also excellent. I can’t wait to come back here!

Wandered in here with a friend during a game of “Happy Hour Roulette” in the neighborhood — what a fantastic find.
I tried the Pineapple Orange IPA and ordered the standard happy hour Maki Roll; I was totally blown away about how fresh the salmon was which lead me to order another.
Service was pleasant, fast, and attentive. Lighting wasn’t too dim and it wasn’t too loud so we were able to hold a conversation and have a good time.
This is a solid happy hour spot and I’m excited to go back to try the dinner menu and for future happy hours. Excellent job with the NYC location. Cheers!

Everything was fantastic. The sushi was meticulously prepared and offered unique taste profiles. The beer being added to the experience.

Went to Moody Tongue sushi in The West Village, Manhattan, NYC. It’s got one Michelin star.
Sushi chef prepared everything in front of us and served it explaining what each roll was. Did the signature and West end handroll sets with two green tea highballs and one Asian pear martini.
Sushi was excellent as were the drinks. Service was good, but not amazing. Restaurant was too warm as well. Ambiance is really nice and old school with a small seating area.

My second time here, this time for my birthday! They brought out complimentary beer (I’m not a huge beer fan at all but this was quite good!). Cucumber roll appetizer and radish salad were winners once again. I personally love the vegan tasting menu. Fresh ingredients, perfect bites. We split the enormous 12 layer carrot cake for dessert and brought most of it home. The cake was spectacular. Service was great. Bathroom is clean and toilet is hella fancy! Looking forward to coming back again soon.
