What made the situation worse was the behavior of the staff. They continuously stared at us, watching closely to see whether food was being shared or not. This constant surveillance made us feel suffocated and uneasy, turning what should have been a relaxing dining experience into an awkward and stressful one.
Food is not just about eating; it is about sharing, bonding, and love. In many cultures, sharing food is a natural expression of togetherness. A restaurant should understand and respect this basic human value instead of policing customers at their tables.
There was even an incident during our visit where another 3 people after hearing about this policy, felt so uncomfortable that they left the restaurant immediately without ordering anything. That alone says a lot about how off-putting this rule is.
I strongly suggest that The Thames Restaurant reconsiders and changes this policy. Allow people to enjoy their meals freely, without feeling watched or judged. A welcoming atmosphere and respect for customers matter just as much as the food itself.
Unfortunately, because of this experience, I would not recommend this place unless they make serious changes to how they treat their guests.
We had a truly fantastic meal at The Thames Indian restaurant recently and were so impressed with everything.
We started with the aloo shingara, which was absolutely delicious. For our main courses, we enjoyed a variety of dishes. The Tandoori Mixed Grill was a highlight, especially the lamb chop which was incredibly soft, tender, and full of flavour. We also thoroughly enjoyed the lamb biryani, Tarka Daal, and Lamb Balti. The naga chicken was fantastic and had that authentic naga flavour – just be warned, as our host kindly did, that it’s extra spicy, so only order if you can truly handle the heat!
The bread selection was also excellent; both the garlic naan and the peshwari naan were amazing, with the peshwari having just the right amount of sweetness.
To finish, we indulged in the gulab jamun, which had a lovely, distinct cardamom flavour that we really liked, as well as the chocolate cake and chocolate ice cream.
A special mention goes to our host, Sab, who was especially helpful in recommending dishes and made our experience even better.
The service was great and the atmosphere was very pleasant. We highly recommend The Thames for a wonderful Indian meal and we can’t wait to return.
The service was excellent — a special thank you to Sab and Mahi, who were both very attentive, friendly, and professional. They made us feel welcome and looked after us throughout the meal.
The atmosphere was warm and relaxing, making it a great place to enjoy a meal with family or friends. Highly recommended, and we will definitely be visiting again!
When the food arrived, we were blown away. The portions were extremely generous, beautifully presented, and above all, absolutely delicious. Every dish was full of rich, authentic flavors and clearly prepared with care and expertise.
This is the kind of place where you don’t just come to eat, but to enjoy a full experience. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for genuine Indian food, outstanding hospitality, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be back!

As a regular at Thames, I can confidently say this place is an absolute gem — especially if you’re studying at BPP University like I am. The food is consistently top notch, and honestly, I haven’t tried a single dish that didn’t hit the mark. Whether you’re in the mood for something vegetarian, non-vegetarian, or even vegan, their menu has something delicious for everyone.
Last time I had their Dal Makhani with rice, and it was beyond comforting — creamy, flavourful, and served piping hot. The portion sizes are generous and the plating is always neat.
A special shoutout to Robin, the manager, who always brings a warm smile and the best recommendations. His sense of taste is on point, and he never fails to suggest something delightful. The owner is equally welcoming and friendly, making the atmosphere even more inviting.
The interiors are clean, cozy, and perfect for both quick lunches and laid-back dinners. Whether you’re dining solo, with friends, or even bringing family, you really can’t go wrong with this place.
Love love this spot — 10/10 would recommend!
The Thames Indian Restaurant didn’t disappoint. The service was very good. The food was very good, with four of us going for the Karahi. The price was very reasonable. Finally contrary to a previous review you can share food
