7-22-2023 Update: I went back today and got lunch for myself and my wife. She tried a Tempura shrimp roll and it was delicious. The other rolls were the crunchy spicy salmon, Jade roll and Alaskan roll, everyone was great.
Ok, we wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt. We walked in, the place felt dirty and sticky. We should’ve ran out when we tasted the Miso, it was a metallic after taste, so I had a couple sips and moved on.
When the sushi, came out the appearance was clearly dull, it was dry, warm to the touch and smelly. I took a tiny bite and the fishy taste was overwhelming. We decided to not risk it and walked out without touching anything else.
We let the cook, know but he refused to own up to it. We weren’t expecting an out of the world experience but at least good enough to eat.
We spent about $60 and didn’t ask for our money back, we just didn’t even want to deal with it. The quality of this place is concerning.
We walked up to Lowe’s and order two sandwiches instead.
The Soba noodles and hibachi are their best items and are a safe bet. The sushi is just okay.
I drove 30 minutes to Miso Japanese Restaurant in Chapin because the reviews looked solid and sushi options near me are limited. I’ve been eating sushi for years—it’s one of my favorite foods. Unfortunately, this was the worst sushi experience I’ve ever had.
We arrived shortly after noon on a Sunday. The restaurant was completely empty. We ordered a 15-piece nigiri, 7-piece sashimi, a spicy tuna roll, and two miso soups.
The miso soup came out first. It was okay, but both my wife and I noticed a weird aftertaste. A few minutes later, the sushi arrived and looked…off. The fish looked dull, a bit dry, and wasn’t cold—it was room temperature. The rice was dry and crumbling apart.
Still trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, I tasted one piece of salmon nigiri and one piece of the spicy tuna roll. I immediately regretted it. The fish was pungent—both in smell and taste. It was not fresh. I politely told the man who prepared the sushi that I was concerned about the freshness. Instead of listening, he argued with me, essentially saying I didn’t know what I was talking about.
I’m no professional, but I’ve eaten sushi all over and never once refused to eat it—until now. This fish was clearly not safe. I didn’t even ask for a refund, though I probably should have. I just wanted to leave.
To top it off, the soy sauce bowls they brought out were dirty and sticky.
Bottom line: I wouldn’t wish this sushi on anyone. Skip it. It’s not worth the risk.
