Final thoughts… go to MR. YOU!
Sarcasm aside, my last few orders have been small (I’m not too demanding but a $13 combo plate should have more than 6 pieces of chicken), the fried rice isn’t cooked to order, and despite the food usually being hot and fast; it somehow tastes stale. The strip mall in which it resides is also filled with sketchy vape stores and a lot overwhelmed with pot holes.
Hoping things improve as this place is dear, as well as convenient! China Inn South has long been a pillar of Holland’s Chinese scene. My folks used to take me to the old one on 32nd for many fondly remembered meals. Hoping things improve because we sincerely do enjoy this restaurant.
On the first two occasions, the hot sour soup was replaced with a different entrée, leading to a sense of frustration. Although my latest order did include the hot sour soup, it deviated significantly from my expectations. Rather than the familiar texture of hot and sour soup, it resembled more of an egg drop soup with unexpected additions such as mushrooms, carrots, and an unfamiliar meat. Regrettably, the flavor profile did not align with any traditional hot and sour or egg drop soup I have experienced, and I found it to be unappealing.
Additionally, I ordered the Hot & Spiced Szechuan Chicken Combo Plate with chicken fried rice. The chicken fried rice was disappointing, featuring large, tasteless pieces of chicken that did not enhance the overall dish. Furthermore, the Hot & Spiced Szechuan Chicken failed to live up to its name—it lacked the promised heat and spiciness, and the overall taste was underwhelming.
