Nestled in the charm of an old firehouse, it offers an intimate environment that feels both cozy and refined. From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and welcoming, setting the perfect tone.

The cocktails were fabulous, but the Bonded Pear stole the show—a perfect fall cocktail with layers of flavor that made us wish we’d ordered several rounds!

The food was nothing short of inventive and scrumptious. The highlight? The roasted white pumpkin soup, which was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. From the first spoonful, I was floored—it was rich, velvety, and packed with surprising flavors that made it impossible to put down.

Every detail, from the service to the drinks and food, was impeccable. I can’t wait to come back.

Atmosphere and service were both top notch, and the food was unique, delicious, and beautifully presented. Our only knock was that the portion sizes were quite small given the prices. Even a few extra veggies or some additional starches to round out the meal would help. The food truly was exceptional though and we’ll be back!

Wren seems to be primarily focused on their tasting menu, which is $95 for 5 courses. This is not a terrible price point for what you likely get. However, what they don’t tell you is that the main courses, if ordered separately for $45 to $55 are still tasting menu portions. For $48 I would expect more that two slices of steak and an egg sized potato. I spent $70 for the steak and an appetizer and left hungry still.

We just returned home from a nice trip to the Leelanau Peninsula and are so happy we celebrated our last night at Wren! The food and service was top notch. Everything felt high end but without any pretension, which is just our style. We opted for the pre-fixed tasting menu and enjoyed every bite! It even came with a few complimentary surprises which I thought was a nice touch. We booked a reservation at the bar and were taken great care of from start to finish. It’s a small place and they do require a deposit for reservations. I’m sure this is to help prevent no-shows. Our deposit was instantly refunded as soon as we checked in at the host stand. Thanks for a great meal. We’ll definitely be back!

We come back every summer for the best dining experience in Leelanau County. They take reservations by phone up to one month in advance. We did the tasting menu with wine, and added the duck entree. Some of the plate presentations looked less appealing this year, but flavors were excellent. The staff is well educated and each person touched our table at least once. Highly recommend!

Wren is our go to spot for when we want a special dinner. It never disappoints. Amazing cocktails. Great seasonal menus. And their tasting menu is always so amazing every single time. Highly recommend!

Can’t say enough good things about this special gem. Came into traverse city for work and was seeking a memorable meal. Wren delivered. The food, the vibe, the staff – just wow. A true example of farm to fork and culinary excellence. As a person from the east coast (yes I’m a snob) who has high food expectations, this place beat them 10x over. I will be back and I will always remember this meal.

P.s – get yourself a personal cheese board. Worth it. And converse with Hannah the bartender, she’s spectacular.

On a recent trip to the Leelanau Peninsula, my husband and I dined at Wren for the first time and were very impressed. This small, cozy restaurant has so much charm, from the historic building to the warm and friendly staff, we were made to feel right at home.

Everything on the menu appealed to us, which made it very difficult to decide what to order. When we return, we will definitely try the tasting menu. We were very pleased with each course, but felt dessert came up a bit short. Our favorites included the octopus, beets and whitefish.

Service at Wren was top-notch. Our server was helpful, prompt and friendly.

Overall, we were so pleased to find a special restaurant to fill the hole that formed when Alliance closed several years ago. If you are in the Traverse City vicinity, the short drive up to Sutton’s Bay will take you to one of the best dining experiences in the area!

We booked a reservation 1 month out for our dinner last night for 8:00PM. We arrived at 7:45 and checked in. The restaurant didn’t have a dedicated host but rather the servers were rotating the role when reservations came in. This waitress told us that our table wasn’t available yet and we should “come back at 8:00.” We thought that was a little odd that we weren’t invited to have a drink at the bar, etc. Maybe that was implied but it seemed odd that they didn’t state that/welcome us.

After waiting outside on a bench, we came in and our table was still not available. We were told that “our” table was being used by the chef’s family. They had been there since 5:30, 2 and half hours. One would think the chef’s family would understand the need of the restaurant to satisfy their PAYING customers and kindly get up when the other reservations arrived as scheduled. After waiting until 8:11 we were sat at a table and we were told that we will need to ‘move once “our” table was ready.’ This is not the customers problem. When customers go out to a restaurant, they expect to be seated once, in the timeframe of their reservation. Neither of these expectations were met. We waited 14 minutes from the time we ordered our drinks until they arrived at the table. The drinks were delicious, kudos to the bartender (who seemed to be the only competent FOH person in the restaurant). “Our” table was available 25 minutes after our reservation time. We sat down, again, and ordered immediately.

We had ordered a la carte but I had asked the waitress if we could have our items one at a time, she obliged. When we had questions about the branzino (fish) the waitress said “Yep, it comes with everything, the bones, the tail and the eyes looking up at you.” I am not paraphrasing, that is EXACTLY what she said. Would you order that if it was described to you in this way?!

The food was for the most part exquisite and delicately prepared. We got the beets, caesar salad, deviled eggs, cheese board as appetizers. I ordered the ducks and my GF ordered the steak cut medium. Out favorite appetizer was the beets with the carrot puree and raspberries. Pacing was going fine until we were waiting for the cheese board. We waited 20 minutes for it to arrive. We had started to become full once the cheese board arrived so we didn’t eat it all. We asked for it to be boxed. Once it was boxed, we waited another 15-20 minutes for our entrees to arrive.

My duck was overdone (our friend who happened to also be eating there next to us and ordered the duck specifically told me to order it MR because his was also overdone.) However, I love duck so it didn’t concern me all that much. But when you’re paying over $40 a plate I’m sure you could understand that this is not an unreasonable request to have it prepared correctly, and timely for that matter. When the server came back to check on our entrees, my girlfriend mentioned that her steak was underdone (MR when ordered MED; See picture below) and the server more or less shrugged it off; Didn’t apologize, didn’t ask to fix it, didn’t offer / bring a small free dessert / comp our first round of drinks, etc. The staff seemed nonchalant about the entire dining experience.

Once the check was dropped off we ask for our first round of drinks to be comped because of our poor experience throughout the entire evening from start to finish.

We returned to the restaurant after visiting for the first time last year for our anniversary, however the magic was not there for this visit. Unfortunately, we did not have the experience we were expecting for a restaurant who prides itself in the fine dining experience.

TL;DR the food was excellent but the service was poor. We spent $200 for a 2 and half hour dinner for poorly prepared entrees (specifically) with a staff ill equipped for the fine dining experience.

Next time we’ll choose a restaurant that values our time and money elsewhere for better service and tastier food.

This restaurant offers an absolute flavor explosion. My wife and I dined and were highly impressed. We’ve ate at many highly rated restaurants, including some with Michelin stars, and Wren has some of the absolute best flavors we’ve experienced. Another TVC restaurant recently won accolades from the NYT, and Wren is more than worthy as well. If I had to nitpick here would be my three critiques to really put it over the edge: 1. For the tasting menu…slow it down a bit…the courses came just a bit too quickly. 2. Be sure to change glasses for each of the wine parings. 3. Get a pastry chef. The dessert was the most disappointing course. Food was spectacular; focus on that, and let a pastry chef do what they do best.
Absolutely amazing meal.
