Faves are the toast with peanut butter, eat time milk tea (have it hot!) and rice rolls with XO sauce. The rest were good too. Peking duck was cooked perfectly (tho the bao could’ve been better), and the curry fish balls were tasty. Our little one loves swears by the popcorn chicken, light, crunchy and savory.
Got the chance to speak to the owner and at the time of writing this, the restaurant had been opened for 3 weeks. Everything from the design of the interior, to the cute paintings and decorations that can be seen throughout the space, are done by both him and his wife. They wanted to step away from the typical looks of a Chinese restaurant and go for something more welcoming and different. He recommended that we try the braised beef as it was a dish that was highly praised from his customers so we went for it. It was the most tender braised beef I have ever had and it outshone all the other ones I’ve had in the ID district. Their Sweet & Sour pork was also an amazing dish; the crunchy texture was a light layer on top of the pork unlike some of the variants I’ve had before where there was more of the outer layer and little of the pork inside.
Additionally we paired it up with their VITA milk and red bean drink (has a really cute cat spoon to mix) as well as a passion fruit soda.
Overall this restaurant quickly became my instant favorite and I plan on coming back here soon and bringing more family and friends as well as trying their other dishes and sharing pictures of them here.
This place offers lunch special Monday through friday, if you are looking for a good deal (generic stir-fry with rice, soup and drink for $10.99 or $11.99).
I liked the stir-fry rice roll with XO sauce and peanut butter toast. Roast duck and salt and pepper fried tofu are mediocre.
Inside is spacious and clean, cute HK cafe style decor (pictures of food, wall art). Service is good. I may come back to try late night snack or dessert.
Their congees are good enough but lack of some traditional ingredients that offered from Chinatown or in Hong Kong. Their Sampan congee did not have any fried wonton or fried fish skin, cilantro, ginger and scallions. I understand some ingredients or topping are optional, but they are the ‘icing on the cake’ – An attractive addition or enhancement for your food.
Their Hong Kong style coffee tasted much better hot than the iced one!
All of their take out containers are styrofoam that many restaurants have stopped using. Maybe is due to recovering as a restaurant post-Covid (money is tight – for paper take out containers?).
Supposed to be beef chow mein, no flavor at all, noodles were burn. Rice was okay compared to the noodles but stills needs more flavor. Needs improvement.
