Had the day off work and went to go try Lovers Pizzeria that sells whole sourdough crust pizzas and reportedly sells out daily, sometimes shortly after opening. I was curious as to whether I would be a “lover,” “liker,” or “hater” of the pizza, so to say, as there has been some mixed reviews.
The restaurant opens at 4pm on Thursdays through Sundays, so I ventured to the location at around 345pm, not fully knowing what to expect. There were four people in line in front of me, two of whom were repeat customers, one trying it for the first time, and the fourth affiliated with the restaurant chatting with those in line. The line had around ten people at opening and moved quickly with a steady influx of people during my time there. I placed an order to go for the poblano, vodka, garlic bread, and peach tres leches cake, which took about 15-20 minutes to make. Before going I had a piece of both the garlic bread and pablano pizza along with a bite of the tres leches cake.
I brought the rest of the food home for dinner and also tried a slice of the vodka pizza. My husband warmed up a few slices of each pizza in the air fryer along with the garlic bread and really liked everything.
In the end, I am a “lover” of the pablano pizza and tres leches cake and a “liker” of the vodka pizza and garlic bread. Sourdough crust can be easily overcooked, but if cooked well, like ours was, it tastes great. Definitely plan to return and try other types of pizza on the menu on a Thursday or Friday at opening, schedule permitting. Menu included in the post.

Found this place on Google’s list of hidden gems for San Antonio which is an accurate description. They do New Haven style pizza and it was by far one of the best pizzas I’ve had. The texture and the flavor were . If you’re not sure what to get the people that work there are extremely friendly and will give you good recommendations. I would go out of my way to eat here again

DO NOT LEAVE SAN ANTONIO without coming here. Hands down the best pizza in San Antonio, best pizza in Texas, and maybe the best pizza in the US. Well done crust with minimal flop, delicious fresh ingredients, and amazing taste. Didn’t even need to add anything on top. We got a margarita pizza and a poblano pizza with jalapeños. I looove margaritas and loved this one, but the poblano was actually even better. The ranch and their spicy sauce were also delicious to go with the crust. Highly recommend. Can’t wait to come back and try their other pizzas!

Probably the best pizza we have had in town. I love the quality and taste of the dough. The place opens later in the day, but be prepared to wait as they get very busy, and will run out of dough pretty fast. In addition to the pizza, you will want to try the tres leches. The flavor of the dessert changes and all that we have tried have been so good! I hope you enjoy it as much as my wife and I did!

My first time here and I was not disappointed. The hype for this place is valid and deserved. Best pizza I’ve had in SA! The crust was flavorful and was not soggy towards the middle. The crust held up throughout the slice. Both pizzas were incredible and you could really taste the love and skill in every bite. We also ordered the garlic bread and it was equally delicious, but just want to note that they are not garlic sticks or knots. It is cut up chunks of sourdough.
We arrived an hour before they opened and a line quickly formed behind us. The staff were engaging, friendly, and worked efficiently. I will definitely be back!

It’s okay. Not worth the price or hype. I I ate two slices the cheese felt spongy and was off putting for me at least. Price I paid fed my curiosity. San Antonio really doesn’t have anything truly unique or outstanding in terms of pizza places. For price and wait I can go to pizza classics (cheaper)or I dare say peter pipers(more fun). This place is more “artisAnal” hypester pizza meh.

Excellent thin crust pizza. Not exotic just classical, perfectly executed pizza made well with good ingredients. Crispy, charred crust. Pablano pie is especially good. Probably their most out of the box item.

Although it sells out quickly and has a very small dining space, this place has incredible pies. Dusty is a stand up guy. He and his wife take pride in their work. Be patient, its worth the wait. Next time I’ll try the Poblano pie and the garlic bread.

Absolutely amazing. I’m from Vegas but go to San Antonio about once a month for work. It took me three times going by and having it be sold out to finally have a chance to order. Definitely didn’t disappoint. This is exactly how I like my pizza. Just the right amount of char, thinness, crisp, etc. everything was perfect. Sauce and cheese were both excellent. Better than any pizza I personally had the opportunity to try while in NYC.

My family and I stopped at Lovers and first and most importantly the owners were very welcoming! Great people skills especially with my little one. Now the most important part the Pie, we ordered a vodka and a cheese pepperoni the sauce, the no flop, and the char was perfection! Have not had pizza like this since i had Buddy Vs. Will visit again when we are in town
