Went to the Roost for dinner while visiting Dover. Very cute place with easy parking. Our server was great. Very attentive and friendly. The Blood orange Margarita and the Roost Hurricane were very tasty and easy to drink. We started with the buffalo chicken dip, which was very good. Our only issue was the Entrees. My husband had the grilled pear salad and asked for no onions. The salad tasted and smelled like onions, like they added them then removed them. I had the scallops and shrimp over risotto. The shrimp and scallops were great but the risotto wasn’t cooked fully.

Recently our family visited Roost for a holiday gathering, and everyone had a good time. We are a chatty bunch, but that didn’t stop the wait staff from making us feel at home and taken care of with a steady round of drink orders, appetizers, mains and desserts. (The birthday candle was a nice touch!)
Honestly, every time I’ve been to Roost — and I’ve been plenty — I find myself coming down with a feeling of “order envy.” When I look around the table and see what everyone has ordered, I take notes. I heard great things about the fish and chips — light, flavorful, crispy. A few of us had one of those amazing large salads. I went with French Onion Soup and a side salad, but my go-to is the Blue Burger, and I’m a snob about blue cheese.
Apart from the food menu, I like the vibe, and the way Roost can surprise you with its rotating drink menu. The Cranberry Mule and Strawberry Mojito were popular with our group, along with some interesting IPAs, my favorite. The bartender also seemed to know the regulars, and welcomed them. It’s always a good sign when a neighborhood embraces a restaurant. Roost is definitely worth the visit.

We were passing through Dover and starting the New Year at Roost was exactly what the soul needed. We had our dog with us so we ordered to-go, but from the moment I walked in, everything felt warm, welcoming, and intentional. The food was deeply nourishing—comforting without being heavy, flavorful without trying too hard. The fig & pig burger was perfectly balanced in flavor and the fries were crisp, not greasy and salted just right. Roost managed to feel both grounding and uplifting at the same time.
Next time we’re leaving the pup at home because this place is perfect for a date night. The perfect way to begin a new year feeling full, centered, and grateful. Can’t recommend it enough!

Our first visit to Roost yesterday (05/10/2025) will also surely be the last one. My wife booked a table for 6:45pm, we were greeted by the host who promptly took us to our table, gave us glasses of water and the menus. Great start but everything went downhill from there. For 30 minutes after being seated, we didn’t see anyone. Nobody came to ask if we wanted to order drinks or anything else, nothing. The place was not even busy but still, no staff came to talk to us or the table next to us, it’s like we were all completely ignored.
At some point (30 min +), the wife ran out of patience and went to the host to ask if we could move to the bar to at least get drinks and we did. We were surprised to see that the bar area was also not busy and that there was no one behind the bar. After sitting there for like 5 minutes, someone came to the bar and asked if we wanted drinks. We finally got our first drinks around 7:20pm and ordered our food at the same time: Crispy brie and Arancini for starters, Roost Burger and Salmon sandwich for mains.
We waited another 40 minutes before our starters came. Arancini were delicious, perfectly made and really tasty. Sadly the brie wasn’t cooked enough, it was a bit cold, the center was still hard and not melted enough. The side crostini were really salty. Our mains came pretty quickly, something like 15-20 minutes after we got the starters but these were another disappointment. The Roost burger was nothing special, the bun was really dry (see pictures) and was served with undercooked frozen French fries. Not impressed. Same comment for the salmon sandwich, salmon was good but the bun was your standard supermarket type of bun and was dry.
Altogether, pretty poor experience, really! I was expecting more after looking at their menu. It screams fine dining but really wasn’t. The food was not worth the wait (an hour and fifteen minutes before getting starters), staff wasn’t very friendly and the service was sluggish but the place wasn’t even busy. Don’t know if they are short staffed but still, the fact that no one came to say “sorry but the wait is gonna be a bit longer than usual” and they avoided contact (seated for 30 minutes without anyone to come, no one behind the bar most of the evening, 3 interactions top for the entire time we were there and simply a global “can’t be bothered attitude”) speaks volume, especially when we had a reservation. It feels like the staff tried to avoid contact.
There’s nothing fancy about this place, it’s mediocre at best. Not considering coming back for a second try.
PS: the beers list is outdated and has wrong information (i.e. Stella beers are from Belgium, not Holland…)

So this rating of the Roost is the average of two visits. The first visit was for lunch. The sandwiches were excellent and the service was good. We sat at the bar and the overall experience was a 5. We decided to return a couple of weeks later. This time we sat outside. The little area was nice. The service was very slow. It took a good 10 minutes for anyone to even come out. We ordered a drink and two apps. The drinks again came out very slowly. The food took even longer. The coconut shrimp really didn’t have any coconut that we could see or taste, and they were over cooked. The cauliflower bites were also over cooked and were ever so bland. They drizzled some sort of sauce over them but they were very dry. We wanted to ask for some additional sauce but nobody ever returned to check on us. This visit was a 1. We will give them another try for lunch in hopes that the app night was an anomaly.

This place has a great atmosphere and live music on Thursday nights. The menu has lots of delicious sounding dishes it was hard to decide. I went with the holy cow tacos and I was a little disappointed. They were fine but nothing spectacular. I would like to try some of the other menu items so I will be back.

Went in on a Friday afternoon around 3 or so and there was one other couple in the place. We enjoyed it because it was nice and quiet. I got the filet tips with mashed and my wife got a seafood duo. We had the spinach artichoke dip for an appetizer. I wasn’t thrilled with my dinner but my wife really liked her seafood duo and the appetizer. I had a Stoneface IPA that was delicious. My wife saw a salad on the menu she wants to get next time and I will try one of the sandwiches. There is plenty of parking. They also have a patio for when the weather cooperates. Our server was very nice and attentive. I had taken a few edibles and couldn’t decide what to order. She was super patient while I decided.

We went to Roost last night for dinner. The food was excellent. We did bring our kids but ate right at 5 as we expected it to be quiet so not to interrupt other diners in case our boys 8 and 11 got chatty. Our waitress was very nice and quick! There is no kids menu (we knew before we went as I always look online) but our kids prefer adult plates anyways. We had the Brie appetizer which honestly the star was the “toast” – it was so good!!! The Shrimp tempura was crispy and with the right amount of heat. The chicken reminded me of my favorite restaurant in Manchester ( Cotton) but this was superior. The braised short ribs looked small – but I could only finish one !!! My son loved the Salmon and it was cooked perfectly.

This is a great little find, I will be going here again. The portions were perfect. I’m not sure why anybody would say different unless they’re used to ordering off the fast food menu meals all the time. I would definitely recommend this place, great option if you’re tired of the same places, all the time.

Place was great. Warm and inviting on a snowy day. Our bartender was very friendly.
Drinks, apps and dinner were all delicious. Recommend the burger with fig jam – unique and yummy.
