Dosa Bhavan in Sutton is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience. From the moment you step inside, the aroma of spices transports you straight to the heart of South India. Our recent visit was nothing short of spectacular, a testament to the kitchen’s dedication to authentic and incredibly flavourful cuisine.
Let’s begin with the fish biryani. Forget any preconceived notions you have about biryani; this was a masterpiece. The tender fish, cooked to perfection, mingled with fragrant, long-grain rice that was infused with a complex blend of spices. Each mouthful was a journey, a delightful dance of heat and subtle sweetness. The layers of flavour were expertly balanced, leaving a lingering warmth that was utterly satisfying.
The masala dosa was another star. Crispy, golden, and perfectly thin, the dosa encased a generous filling of spiced potatoes. The sambar and chutney served alongside were vibrant and fresh, each adding a unique dimension to the dish. The sambar, with its tangy tamarind base and medley of vegetables, was particularly noteworthy.
Now, for the real magic: catering to my two boys, who are decidedly spice-averse. The chefs at Dosa Bhavan didn’t just offer a bland substitute; they crafted unique, delicious dishes tailored to their palates. They created a mild chicken dish that was still incredibly flavourful, using a delicate blend of herbs and spices that appealed to their sensitive taste buds. This level of personalized service and culinary creativity is truly exceptional.
No meal at Dosa Bhavan is complete without indulging in their ice cream. It’s not just an afterthought; it’s a must-try. Creamy, rich, and bursting with authentic flavours, it’s the perfect sweet ending to a spicy and satisfying meal.
In summary, Dosa Bhavan in Sutton is a gem. The food is not just good; it’s an explosion of flavour, crafted with passion and skill. The attentive service, the willingness to cater to individual needs, and the unforgettable desserts make it a dining experience that will leave you wanting more. If you’re looking for authentic South Indian cuisine that’s both delicious and memorable, look no further.
Dosa Bhavan is a true gem in South London, bringing the authentic taste of Kerala to the city. The flavors are spot on—rich, aromatic, and genuinely traditional. The dosas are crisp and perfectly made, the curries are packed with depth, and the overall quality of food is exceptional.
The service is equally commendable. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and happy to guide you through the menu if you’re unsure what to order. It’s clear they take pride in their food and ensuring customers have a great experience.
Some of the negative reviews seem quite unfair—this place offers incredible food at great value, and it’s one of the best spots in London for South Indian cuisine. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic Kerala flavors!
There has always been an issue with there packed order where they provide minimal Sambhar etc which is essential with dosa etc. I usually check it during collection and they fix it. I provided this feedback multiple times.
However today it happened again when checked my order, and the guy serving just denied, it which is so strange. For such a small thing you are not only making your food less attractive to customer but also losing your regular customers.
Hope management takes note of it and do something about it as I want this restaurant to flourish.
The paneer butter masala was probably suited towards a Brit Geezer who hasn’t had a single clue about Southern Indian cuisine, otherwise it was decent .
Still, can’t forget the amazing experiences we’ve had here in the past — hoping things get back to that level soon.
Pepper lamb is a must try with Paratha / a bit oily but loved it.
Dosas are crispy and good size.
There coconut dips are of super quality and taste.
