Edit: I actually went back two weeks later because I missed the food so much. This time we got there at 12:30 pm.I had the spicy noodles in hot special beef: so good! My husband stuck with his favorite, the crispy spicy fried shrimp, and loved it again. The fried rice was simple and tasty, and we also had pork dumplings and egg rolls for appetizers. Both were delicious.
I would visit this place again because the food is unique and delicious.
I am changing my 3 stars into 5 stars because if food is good and place is clean that’s enough for a restaurant .
Amazing how people can be so rude and have such little consideration for others. Probably why no one else was there, or maybe the food is just as bad.
Ate there again first weekend of feb 26. Food is still just as amazing, portion sizes, options, everything about this place is amazing.
If you can’t eat food too spicy, just let them know before you order as they have a plenty of options here. Can’t wait to come back trying more things on the menu.
The food has always been great here. They have Americanized and authentic Chinese food here so most people will be able to find something they like.
The restaurant itself is small and the building is older. However these minor inconveniences are overshadowed by the quality and taste of the food.
I stopped in for dinner while visiting Columbia for work and was pleasantly surprised. This place serves solid, home-style Chinese food — the kind you remember from classic family-run spots. The hot and sour soup was spot-on: tangy, spicy, and full of flavor. The egg rolls were crisp and tasty, and the Kung Pao chicken with steamed rice? Easily one of the best I’ve had — perfectly balanced heat, crunch, and sauce.
The vibe here definitely leans old-school, and the staff have that classic no-nonsense East Coast edge. A little gruff, a little bitchy — and honestly, it just made the experience feel more authentic. The waitress did finally crack a smile when she brought my credit card back. lol. If you’re into traditional Chinese-American fare done right, this place delivers.
The food is really really good. It’s on the super spicy end so we asked for spicy level 1/5 only. The prev time I ordered a takeout from here (crispy intestine, highly recommended) I didn’t mention spicy level so while it was delicious it was also very hot. We ordered braised pork as a safe choice but was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it is, with some special subtle flavor in it. The eggplant was super soft inside but the outside still looked perfectly intact. The dandan noodle is good. I love the spicy beef appetizer. Everything’s so good, the portion is huge, the owner is also very nice and prompt. 4 dishes with 2 rice bowls, all come down to only $53 (not including tips)!!!!
Unfortunately, the food did not meet my expectations. I ordered the spicy crispy chicken, but it was overcooked and extremely dry, with a texture more similar to a cracker than chicken.
What was worst, however, was the waitress’s service. When she brought menus to the table, they were just tossed. At first, I assumed the server might have been busy.
Later, when I asked which items were popular at the restaurant, she simply pointed at the whole page of the menu and said, “This,” without further clarification, and throwing the menu again and walked away.
At checkout, my card was returned to me by tossing again. Of course, not even saying a word when I was leaving.
Overall, while I understand that staff can have busy or difficult days, the service and food quality made the experience disappointing.
The sweet and sour chicken and vermicelli weren’t my favorite, but the reason I decided to give this restaurant 5 stars is because their orange chicken is the best orange chicken I’ve ever had. It’s so perfectly crunchy on the outside and has a well cooked inside. The sauce is amazing!
My boyfriend who has eaten his fair share of orange chicken while living in Springfield stated he would drive all the way to Columbia for this orange chicken. He too believes it’s the best orange chicken he’s had. I highly recommend the orange chicken!!
The meat dumplings are also a nice appetizer.
