I was disappointed with the overall taste of the food. My husband and I visited on a Friday afternoon. We ordered the pulled chicken sandwich, mac n cheese, sweet potato fries, ribs and pulled chicken combo, pulled pork nachos, and hush puppies. Out of all that, we would recommend the hush puppies and ribs. Everything else was just okay. My husband didn’t even eat his sandwich because of the lack of flavor. (He’ll eat just about anything.)
The cashier wasn’t very friendly, and neither was anyone else in the restaurant. We won’t be returning.

This is great for a quick bite to eat if you don’t want to punish your liver with greasy corporate fast food! I had heard the name of this place pop up time and again, so I finally decided to give it a look.

I was impressed! They also have their own merchandise, an incredibly clean and decorated bathroom, and they even have a big poster on the wall with fun facts about pigs!

Did YOU know pigs could play video games?

Lets start with what was good.. The fried okra was great. I ordered a 2 meat (pork and ribs) plate with the okra (why only 1 side?). Had to pay $3.50 for a side of mac and cheese (which was dry, not cheesy tasting and SPRINKLED WITH PAPRIKA?) and the portion was about 2 tablespoons, not worth the cost. Let’s talk taste. The pulled pork was good but not great and what’s up with a sweet tomato based sauce on the side for pork, The ribs were generous, but I see why. They were the worst I’ve ever had at a BBQ restaurant. They were covered in pepper ans some other dry rub and were not tender. In fact they were so dry that you couldn’t get all the meat off the bone. Tasted like someone’s first try at baking ribs in an oven and overcooking them. No juice at all and no taste other than pepper. I would not order anything but the shredded pork if I decided to go back (which I won’t). I ordered my food on line and it was ready before I wanted it to be, but they kept it in a warmer until I arrived 15 minuts after they said texted it was ready (which was 15 minutes sooner than I scheduled).

Now lets talk value. My bill was $28 which included a 18% tip (suggested) The $3.50 for a side was a ripoff, plain and simple for a cup that holds 2 tablespoons. The portions value was good, but the quality wasn’t so I say not worth the cost. You get better ribs at Applebees and the pork was flavorless

The Embers is a great place to find lunch in Southern Pines. The atmosphere is unpretentious and casual. The bathroom for everyone is located to the left of the order counter, which is a little awkward, but they are maximizing the use of their space. The hostess was friendly and patient in taking our orders. The prices are reasonable for the generous portions.
I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. My companion ordered the brisket sandwich and regular fries.
The chicken was pleasantly enhanced with a slightly sweet barbecue sauce and Cole slaw. The sweet potato fries were freshly prepared, but they lacked the savory seasoning that I expected. My companion liked the flavor of the brisket, but she found it to be too populated with bits of fat. Some may prefer the extra flavor provided with the juicy bits, but texture is also important. The fries were crisp and savory. We liked the food well enough to return soon, but brisket will not be one of our choices.

No frills but delicious bbq and a simple setup. I appreciated the 100 sanitation grade and overall cleanliness. This type of bbq is my favorite – clean and flavorful but not fatty and greasy. The fries were cooked to order and everything tasted fresh. A great spot to grab a bite or take to go.

In on a Saturday at 3 for an early dinner.
33 miles, one way, to check them out.
Not busy.
Order at counter and they will bring your order.
Menu is a big board behind the register.
ORDERED:
1/2 rack of Saint Louis cut pork ribs. $13.49
Came with 1 side (baked beans) and a small corn bread.
Ribs came out of a warmer and were dry and small.
Also, NOT HOT but just warm. Beans were OK.
Iced Tea (serve your self) $2.10 with refills.
I wanted to try their brisket. Got 1/2lb to go $11.50
They said it was CHOPPED but it was cut into CUBES.
Flat and point together and sauced.
Things were OK but tooooo far to go back.

This restaurant has stepped in to fill the loss of a long standing and much loved local bakery after that owner’s retirement. They big shoes to fill but only in the realm of customer service and cultivating relationships with locals. The food is very different for the most part. That said they do serve breakfast which is what I got today!

I ordered something I have been dreaming about since I heard they would be offering it. A BBQ brisket egg and cheese sandwich. I got it on the English muffin however there were some other choices which I have forgotten. I also got a sausage egg and cheese on the same muffin. They were both made from scratch and in a timely fashion. The staff was very nice and seemed to be educated on the menu. The sandwiches were both tasty and what I expected. I think next time I will ask for some BBQ sauce for my brisket sandwich because it was somewhat dry but very flavorful with good crust. The cost for both sandwiches was $13.91 total which is very reasonable but will probably change with the mass inflation the whole world is facing.

All in all it was a great experience and I am super excited to have reasonably priced breakfast option downtown again! I will be back!

Pros: The ribs were delicious! The pulled chicken was juicy and well sauced. The potato salad side was tasty.

Cons: EVERYTHING else was bland, not even a hint of salt, but all was cooked well. The corn muffin was dry and disappointingly bland as well.

We will try them again and recommend them for their ribs, potato salad, and pulled chicken.

*Service: all were welcoming, a better platter option was recommended by the cook and we were grateful.

*Atmosphere: COLD at the tables under the a/c, only one available to us that wasn’t, it was tolerable. There is an arcade game, which is so cute and nostalgic but it randomly making loud pinging sounds throughout the duration of our meal was annoying and took away from our ability to enjoy ourselves.

The best part was the customer service.
Bbq was okay at best, tasting similar to what you can purchase frozen at the grocery store. The Ribs were really fatty and the brisket was chopped and covered in sauce, which makes me think it wasn’t the freshest.

Additionally, they do not offer water cups and the water is more than $2 each.
