I have been a big fan. I no longer am, regrettably. But it almost seems like over the past few years management has been doing what they can to disappoint. They had a great menu, with numerous excellent appetizers, mains and desserts, everything was well done and tasty. Bit by bit they took away the best items, until now the menu is bland, blah and boring. Similarly, the outside area used to feature seating down along the grass, which had a great feel and gave the place a wonderful, relaxed feel. That too is no longer. There is a lot of potential here, with a great setting and sitting areas. And it was very good for a while. That too is no longer.

The food was awful! This seems like a nice neighborhood watering hole ’round the golf course. We noticed few were eating other than us, so maybe this was our mistake.
The fish & chips included soggy fries and extremely overcooked fried frozen fish. I think someone forgot it was in the fryer. The hamburger included pieces of gristle/cartilage…a first for us.

This place is nearby and we really wanted to like it. Service was efficient, no complaints there.

Did a Google search seeking a restaurant in West Chester with some ambiance and got a number of hits for Bordley House Grill – not in town, but not far out of town, either. I recognized the area from my trips to Temenos Retreat House nearby on Telegraph Road, but had never noticed the place, because it’s just off Telegraph, going West, to the right on Broad Run Road. I’d also never heard of the place before. I admit to not keeping up with the area restaurants and it turns out it’s only been open for about two years in its most current incarnation, so that’s not surprising.

I arrived early for my date and the bartender was friendly and informative. I had time to check out the list of draft and bottled bear, which was impressively diverse with both known and less known choices, including some microbrews I’d never heard of before. The menu likewise reflected more than a few unique offerings among some more familiar dishes. The bartender told me that they use only fresh ingredients and grow their own herbs on site in keeping with the original owner’s interests. A write up about him and the history of the place is just inside the menu and also on the website.

The ambience, as anticipated, was wonderful. Original stone supports and fireplace, handsome leather and upholstered seating, tasteful golf oriented art work (since the restaurant is located on a public golf course), all nicely accentuated with Christmas decorations this day. And, outside the window, still more loveliness in the unfettered rolling hills and woods of the countryside and – this day – the massive facing hill gleamed with snow and was covered with toboggan trails.

We enjoyed the soup of the day with steak and vegetables and also the standard menu item – chicken pot pie soup with floating puff pastries. For dessert an interesting combination of apple cider donuts (made with the same ingredients as Highland Orchards cider donuts, the bartender informed me), squares of sugar spiced apples, and whipped cream dotted with candied bacon – not too sugary for all that, and even nourishing.

We were, unfortunately for the proprietor, the only ones there for lunch that day although we did get to sit at a table just in front of the fireplace which the staff lit and tended just for us, so no complaining here. I wanted to write this review to share this find so that it may continue to be found there. I encourage you to try the Bordley House Grille and know you won’t be disappointed for the effort. The prices are nice, too. It’s a perfect middle of the road between the not too distant casual dining of Four Dogs Tavern and fine dining of Marshalton Inn. With its long bar, including a television, it is inviting for an informal drop-in, as well.

One of the best kept secrets in Chester County. Excellent food, great service and a beautiful setting and ambiance in all seasons (fire place inside and terrace with views). A happy place.

I don’t know what people are talking about when they say the food is terrible. Some of the best food you can get. Get the smoked wings, pulled beef sandwich, and sante fe chicken egg rolls. Also a great golf course
