This place was alright! I would probably go back to try another variation of hibachi- but what I got tonight was nothing special. The rice and veggies were pretty bland. They definitely need the white sauce on top. I got my food to-go which I think is what most people do as there was only one table sitting inside. The eat-in seating was pretty large. The employee taking orders was pretty friendly- that was the only one I interacted with. As far as price the prices are not accurate on their website/Facebook. They are about $3 more than the picture of the menu. My hibachi cost ~$14.
Pros: My food was ready basically the the time I was done paying. The give you a large portion of protein which is really nice. This is especially rare for shrimps!
Overall this place was OK. I would probably give it another try, but definitely will not be top of mind in the future.

Service was okay. The broccoli was under cooked, zucchini was overcooked and the vegetables were mostly undercarmalized onions. The fried rice was just white rice fried in butter to give it some color. The meats and shrimp were just grilled with no sauce served as dry as the Sahara. It reminded me of when my elementary school did “international day” for lunch made and served in the cafeteria. Asked for ginger sauce and was given 2 half frozen packets that looked like they came from a frozen chicken TV dinner. The spring roll also tasted like it came from a box of frozen appetizers.

Wanted to try this place out, and they had a small window where you could order due to COVID-19. Menu was simple. The portions they give you are worth the price! I’d ask for extra teriyaki sauce on the side or soy sauce, since the beef lacked a little compared to the chicken. I’d go there again though!

Very nice staff, prompt service, food done quick. Portion worth the cost. Tasty chicken, but nothing fancy. Would like veggies in fried rice. Will go again and try teriyaki.

Called in 3 orders, picked them up and all three were missing the teriyaki sauce. This is actually the second time orders were incorrect so I called to complain and they first said there was nothing they could do, it was just missing the sauce. I complained further then they hung up the phone. I then called back and asked to speak to the manager or get the managers number and they refused to give it to me. They then offered me 10% off my next order making me buy another meal to get some type of compensation. This business does not consider you a customer just revenue, and if there is an issue they will not make it right. I would not buy from Japan Express in Chapel Hill and force them to be accountable to their customers. I also confirmed they knew all orders were teriyaki and it is on the receipt so there is no question. The receipt is attached for reference. Beware if you decide to get a meal from them.

I ordered the shrimp tempura roll.. both rolls were raw. I called and they said it was fried, but it looks like it was in the fryer for a second since it only fried the outer part. BEWARE!! It is disgusting getting food like this. Photo added under photos tab. It’s evident which is mine.. it’s the one with raw shrimp in sushi
