This place truly offers a taste of Japan. For the price, this is the best sushi I’ve had so far in Chicago. The tuna is comparable to sushiro that I had regularly in Japan though the slice is even thicker with great fish to rice ratio, the hamachi/yellowtail is fabulous, and the fish generally very fresh, served in large slices and absolutely delicious with the vinegared rice. My wife had the tonkatsu curry, which came in a HUGE portion. It’s not as impressive as the sushi in terms of authentic taste, but it definitely fills you up and is still tasty.

I stopped by Taste of Japan when I was craving something simple and comforting, and it turned out to be a solid, no-frills spot. The space is casual and straightforward, more about the food than the atmosphere, which I actually appreciate. I ordered a bento box with teriyaki chicken and a few sushi rolls, and everything came out fresh and nicely portioned. The chicken was tender with that slightly sweet glaze, and the sushi tasted clean and balanced, not overloaded with sauce. It’s not trying to be high-end omakase or trendy fusion, just dependable Japanese comfort food at a reasonable price. Service was quick and polite, perfect for a relaxed lunch or easy dinner without overthinking it.

Me and my friend stopped by after traveling 8+ hours to Chicago. We got ramen and curry meals. Super delicious, best Japanese food I have had in a long time. Nice quiet atmosphere.

This place has amazing curry rice. It’s so good I just went to Japan and it tastes the same with the same curry consistency, perfectly fried tofu, potatoes. The miso soup was thick and not watery and the rice was perfect with a little stickiness. This place is so so good. Quiet, really comforting tastes. I wish I had one near me.

I have dined in here once and gotten carry out for lunch here a few times. The owners are kind and friendly and the space is clean and comfortable.
I usually get sashimi when I order from here. They are very generous with their sashimi portion size as compared to other places I have eaten. The sake/salmon sashimi is always perfectly soft and smooth, and nearly melts in my mouth.
The miso soup is also cozy. It has a little heat/spice that actually warms my body when the weather is chilly. It is so delicious!

Its our first time here. The place was good. It was cold outside and wanted to taste a hot soup. We ordered ramen and it was served not too hot. It was just warm. Could have been better if the food it was served really hot.

I do not think they understand Japanese foods. They apparently created a modified version of Japanese foods which turned out to be even worse.
Nigiri sushis were okay, but they keep disintegrating, and Gunkan Maki’s nori was somehow replaced by cucumber.
The ramen ‘tasted like’ (not saying they are) it was made off of some kits from Amazon. At least it wasn’t on par with what I would expect from a ‘Japanese Restaurant’.
Edit: Miso soup was $4. I cannot comprehend why a small bowl of miso soup would be $4. I ended up not ordering it.

Finally some good sushi in North Loop! They’re threatening to be one of the best in downtown.
Very authentic. Not a place for americanized rolls.
Go here for Hand Rolls, Nigiri, and Sashimi.
Also really good noodles!

I ordered ahead for lunch and was pleasantly surprised! Very good quality fish and flavor was great. I will definitely be back to try more! Only giving 4 stars for now since I’ve only tried once.

Taste of Japan has several delicious meals like ramen, Japanese curry and various sushi and sashimi.
I had the pork tonkatsu miso ramen and it had plenty of pork, noodles, bamboo and egg.
The restaurant has a spicy sauce at the tables that you can add for extra spicy flavor.
For four of us, it was $110 including tip.
I would return. I visited in late May 2025. There is a restroom available for customers.
