The place is located in a low key area of the city, easy access by walk. It’s been decorated in a deja-vu style, as if objects were gathered randomly overtime from Vietnam and displayed. I kinda like it. Music playlist was on track, only vietnamese songs.
Staff is attentive and will make sure you get everything you need.
BBH portion is so generous, lots of meat that have been well cooked. Taste is quite good compared to all the BBH i tried in the UK so far. £11 only, a bargain. We ordered their shrimp salad, flavour was great; although i wish it was actually papaya instead of salad.
The nem were so delicious.
That said, bun thit nuong was a miss; the marinate was made with char siu which is unusual in my opinion. i expected the usual lemongrass/soy sauce/fish sauce marinade.
Overall, No wonder they got such high reviews and how busy they were already at 6pm on a Friday night. If i were living in Manchester permanently, i would go here every week
We ordered the rare beef pho, king prawn summer rolls, and pork spring rolls. Each dish was fresh, aromatic, and bursting with flavour.
The service was attentive without being intrusive, the prices were more than reasonable (portion sizes were generous as hell) and the ambience struck the perfect balance between cosy and contemporary.
I’ll definitely be back soon for my next pho fix
Portions are generous. You even get free tea, home-made pickled garlic on the table, and some Viet bolero music playing in the background – you can’t get more authentic than that. The owners and staff are lovely people. We always end up having a nice chat whenever we visit.
They also have a nice little shop next door selling Vietnamese groceries and snacks. I always pick up a few cold dishes when they’re in stock. Their sticky rice cakes (bánh chưng) are great too – these are traditionally eaten around new year but honestly they’re too good to save for once a year.
Service: it’s not silver spoon but what do you expect, really? The staff are friendly and service is quick. No faults.
Atmosphere: great atmosphere, family business vibes, if the family is shouting you know the foods gonna be good.
Food: Just had my fourth visit and can confidently say everything I’ve tried so far has been fantastic.
Phở Đạc Biệt: So good, the broth is seasoned perfectly, still light not too salty. The beef cuttings are great, the chicken is tender but with an enjoyable firmness too. The meatball is homemade and great and the sausage slices are fantastic. Please enjoy with the bottle of chilli sauce and pickled garlic. Dont ruin with hoisin, I beg. Way better than Ca Phe Viet next door and much lighter and better seasoned than Pho Cue.
Bún Bò Huế: Finally, actual BBH in the UK. So often have restaurants just served BBH as Phở with some chilli on top. Not here! The BBH is perfect, well seasoned broth fragrant with lemongrass. You have the traditional pork knuckle hunk and the blood cake, which is perfectly soft and no odour. Great bowl! Personal preference would prefer spicier but you can add the chilli oil as desired.
Tai Hèo Gỏi / Pig ear salad: Haven’t seen this in the UK before! Pleasantly surprised, the pig ears are perfectly cooked. Soft, gentle chew and satisfying crunch with absolutely no odour. Vegetables are fresh and crisp. If I had one more I’d say it’s slightly too sweet for me, that’s all!
Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm: (not pictured) again, so pleasantly surprised to see this in the UK! Really really great, the tofu is perfectly fried and juicy, the pork slice is tender, spring roll was perfectly crispy and tasted great and the mắm tôm dipping sauce is the perfect mix of funky, sweet, sour and spicy. So good!
If you only have one choice of Vietnamese restaurant in Manchester, it should be Que Huong Viet. Ca Phe Viet next door seems to be the more popular option, though I’m unsure why as everything they do QHV does much better at slightly cheaper prices. And way better than the completely overrated and overpriced Pho Cue.
