We visited Blake’s Place after seeing it featured on Kitchen Nightmares. The food looked incredible on TV, and I wanted to give it a fair shot, knowing reality shows can sometimes be a little over the top.
The highlights:
The moment we walked in, we felt genuinely welcome. The space is small, cozy, and full of character.
The food was fantastic — I ordered the fried chicken, and it was perfectly cooked with a flavorful batter. The spicy syrup was a standout and had a great kick to it!
We shared an order of Riverbend fries, and they were just as delicious.
The cocktails were excellent, and our server was friendly, talkative, and very helpful.
Where there’s room for improvement:
It was a busy Saturday night, and with only one server, service was understandably slow at times — getting drinks, refills, and even utensils took longer than expected.
Food also came out slowly, and one dish needed to be remade.
The hanger steak was well-seasoned but unfortunately tough.
Overall, the welcoming atmosphere and delicious food definitely made it a memorable experience. I’d recommend it, especially for the fried chicken and cocktails, but just be prepared for a slower pace during busy nights.

This place is so cute! Service was amazing- we had a great time with him and the food was chefs kiss- I ordered the steak and eggs, which were absolutely delicious and he got the chicken and waffles. Now I’m not even a person that eats chicken breast – but this chicken cooked to perfection that I even enjoyed the breast! Also getting a leg a thigh and a breast with chicken and waffles??? An Amazing deal!

Waiter was new but he was very nice and kept checking on us ; he was also the bartender as well. We had a group of 6 and 4 ppl ordered margarita flights so they did take quite a while to come out maybe about 30-45mins, the drinks came about about 5 minutes before the food. We went for brunch, and everyone enjoyed their food. The one thing I didn’t like about a dish was the vegetable omelette , it’s no description and I asked what was in it first and he said the usual vegetable items like mushrooms, bell peppers, etc. so I decided to get it, I was disappointed when it was lettuce in my omelette, it was like cold mixed lettuce wrapped in an egg- I thought it would be like sautéed spinach, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions or something nice and hot but it wasn’t so I was not a fan of that. Blake was around and was nice and friendly. All of the food(besides the omelette) was seasoned and the grits was so good and creamy. I would def come back

UPDATE: I came here today 11/17/2024 and got two apps and a side. Everything played very well together and was bursting with flavor. The service was excellent. 20/10. Perfect solo/date brunch and date night spot!
I came here for a solo date and Blake’s Place DID NOT disappoint. My crab cake appetizer was bursting with crabmeat and excellent choice flavors, my Dumaine Treat had the cutest and most unexpected presentation, the catfish was SO FRESH it tasted like it was just caught and the entire dish was seasoned to perfection. My CeCe Sunrise was an added bonus expertly crafted with all fresh ingredients and the atmosphere was so beautifully decorated to foster a warm and inviting environment. Fatia and Taryn really took care of me during my visit. I felt like I was amongst family and not strangers. If you want excellent food, drinks, and service look no more because Blake’s Place has it all!

Second time coming here and unfortunately it was after I praised and bragged how good they were and got some of my family to try them. We had a pretty large reservation (12 people) and was told they couldn’t accommodate all of us sitting together even though there was more than enough room in the booth area for us all to be able to sit with one another. COOL! We were the last to arrive and were given paper menus that quickly got soaked due to the table being extremely wobbly. At one point I had to tell my cousin to not place anything on the table to not have it shake like it was having a small tantrum. The vibe was nice again, really solid music playing so that wasn’t bad. The waiter we initially had took our drink orders and then completely disappeared. We sat and waited for another waiter to bring the drinks and it took sooo long my wife had to get up herself and get the drinks that were sitting for so long it had gotten watered down. So much for that auto gratuity. When explaining the menu, we were told that they were still only serving brunch (it was 3PM) and then they mentioned the catch of the day (didn’t even say what the actual catch was) only to tell us it wasn’t available on the brunch menu. The new bartender they had there DIMITRIS kept repeating a sad old tired joke when someone wanted water and he would ask for their ID. He did this a couple times and it was observed he did this apparently to get numbers? Idk it was weird. Food took so long that we all forgot what we ordered. Some other people’s food came out so quick that by the time they finished we STILL hadn’t gotten our food. Prices we paid don’t reflect the price on the menu. On the menu a tequila sunrise is $10, we paid $13 which isn’t a problem but there was not one mention that it was more. Craziest part at this point was that I ordered an alcoholic drink and NO ONE asked for my ID. Make that make sense. We finally got our food after about 45+ minutes and I’m not sure why it took so long there was only our party and 1 other table. Chicken and waffles was fantastic and someone at my table even said it was the best fried chicken he ever had in his life. Asked for syrup and the waiter gave us 1 for each person (I guess they’re rationing condiments). Eggs and the omelet were overcooked and had no salt or flavor which is disappointing. The first time I had got the tequila sunrise, I found a gnat in it and the bartender immediately made me another and it was delicious but things quickly went from meh to “Why in the hell did we come here?”. Whoever the servers are, didn’t split the check and put everyone on one bill. No biggie right? WRONG!! My cousin paid for his daughter and her husband which left us with the remaining balance which somehow was about $30 more than we ate for. We did the math adding our meals and the gratuity and the taxes and everything and it consistently totaled about $80 but we were presented a bill of $107. Which apparently still wasn’t right. No one seemed to understand how we were overcharged $28. When Blake did come to explain she was SO patronizing and I told her we’re not paying the extra $30 because it didn’t make any sense. Then in this middle of this whole thing which at this point has gotten worse and worse, the super annoying and obnoxious bartender asked us to leave a 5-star review. I think this guy’s drinking on the job because it’s no way in hell it was 5-stars. To be fair, he was welcoming and interacted well with the kids but it was way, way too much like chill and let us enjoy the food. No one seemed to enjoy it and we 10/10 WILL NOT RETURN. I probably won’t recommend this place and that’s a shame because the food was decent. Oh well, c’est la vie.

Blake’s Place is a hidden uptown gem that serves up delicious and fresh food. I went here to celebrate my 27th Birthday and I’m so glad I did. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I really appreciated how attentive they were to our needs. They even wished me a happy birthday on the digital board☺️ My only criticism would be that it did take a while for us to get our food, which is something that I’m sure will get better with time. However when we got our food it was hot and so good. I ordered the catfish with the River-bend fries. For my drink I ordered a blueberry margarita that was so good. Also, we got there during happy hour so their margaritas was $5. I will definitely be back and recommend Blake’s Place to people.

5 stars is all they’ll let you post, so let me tell you a story. I’m of an advanced age, so when I tell you I’ve never eaten a better burger, trust me it’s unbelievable, as most of y’all know I’m new to NOLA but not the hospitality industry. Great music, warm and comfortable environment, everything that screams awesome customer experience, because it truly was!
