Reviews
The dining area is relatively small in size compared to the Naperville location however it did provide for a more cozy atmosphere and experience.
They don’t take reservations so wait times can vary even though they offer priority seating. The only downside to that is they don’t have enough seats to wait. Might I suggest some accommodations for those of us that have a disability? The hostess did find a seat for me at the bar, very kind of her to do. Someone had just left so I was able to sit down for the half an hour we had to wait otherwise I’m not sure what I was going to do.
Food was outstanding! My friend had the sea bass and raved about the sticky rice that accompanied it. I had the cheese ravioli and shrimp with roasted jalapeños which was outstanding. For dessert the banana pie rocked.
BRANDON our server deserves a huge shoutout as he was extremely attentive to our needs and quite personable. Our experience was truly phenomenal. I will be back soon!
***Four stars given due to the fact that they do not have a true reservation system and wait times can vary drastically. Also, no accommodations for patrons with disabilities that do need to wait.
The Wait & Atmosphere
They don’t do traditional reservations, but rather a “priority seating list.” We were quoted 20 minutes but ended up waiting about 45. To be fair, this wasn’t really on the management—it seemed like guests were lingering at their tables long after finishing (maybe guests forgot they were in a restaurant and not a bar?). The management was great about it, though, and heavily discounted our meal to make up for the delay.
The Food
The appetizers were a highlight:
• French Onion Soup: Solid, savory, and classic. I would’ve loved one more piece of bread to soak up the broth, but it was tasty.
• Spring Rolls: Great crunch and the Asian dipping sauce was a perfect pairing.
• Focaccia: We don’t usually order bread, but this was fresh-made and amazing. Pro tip: Dip it in the chili sauce from the spring rolls for a sweet and spicy kick!
• Scalloped Potatoes: These came with the steak and were fantastic—the layers almost tasted like perfectly crisp fries.
The Steak & Service
I ordered the Aged Long Island Wagyu (medium). Unfortunately, it arrived cold and was a bit chewier than expected. The waitress and manager handled it perfectly, though. They warmed it up and replenished the sides (including the scalloped potato). While it ended up closer to well-done after being reheated, the flavor was still excellent.
Drink: The Smoking Gun. It’s a sweeter, smokier old fashioned. It’s just the right amount of sweetness. They smoke the drink at your table to add the smoky aroma to the taste. I could have had 2.
The Standout: The Staff
Our waitress was the MVP of the night. She was incredibly attentive, my water was never empty, and she was proactive about drinks.
Her ability to pick up on small issues and ask the right questions truly saved the experience.
To get the five I think they need to get the seating situation figured out. When I think of going here again, I’m always going to be thinking about the wait. Also, the steak needs to be cooked the way I ask it to be and not cold.
The Lobster Cargot has tons of flavor, I wish I could eat this every day. It’s like Lobster nuggets swimming in melted butter with melted cheese. It’s worth a trip just for this one appetizer.
Employees are very friendly.
The shape of the building is fun and unique.
The bar is small, so good luck getting a seat if you just want a drink.
Everything we ordered came out cooked to perfection, and every dish had such unique, incredible flavors. You can really tell how much care goes into the food. We especially love coming for happy hour — the half-off appetizers are such a great deal and never disappoint.
Our waiter was so sweet and made the night extra special by letting my husband pick one dessert for free, which was such a thoughtful touch. From the food to the service to the atmosphere, everything was flawless. We can’t wait to come back!
We started with the bone marrow with delicious garlic toast, fig jam, and pickled red onions. I had an espresso martini. Followed by the salmon risotto which was perfectly done. So creamy, but not crunchy or mushy… just right.
My daughter had a vegetarian stuffed pasta with mushrooms it was also perfectly seasoned. Also had a gin and tonic that was perhaps the best gin and tonic I’ve ever had. The presentation from the starter, to the mains, drinks and desserts were all beautiful.
The banana cream pie was the best I’ve ever had. The chocolate cake was also good, but we couldn’t finish it because we were so full.
It made our trip from Canada worth it just to experience this restaurant and the people who work there. Though I don’t know the other man’s name, I wanted to mention there was also a bearded man who mentioned he had only been working there for a short time. We both thought during our first conversation with him that he was an owner. He truly seemed to care about the place. As a business owner myself, I would be ecstatic to have such an incredible team. Well done! Thank you for a great night out.
