Welcome to Swampfire Backwoods Bistro, at Newell Lodge & Resort. We’re a small family owned and operated restaurant that offers elegant, relaxed dining. Located at the heart of a beautiful 300 year oak grove, you’ll find our setting is perfect for before and after dinner strolls, firefly spotting, and games of hide and seek with the little ones. It’s oak that gives our sizzling, Grade A ribeye steaks an unmistakable, mouthwatering local flavor. We serve them with fresh seafood and all the trimmings. We keep the menu simple and the quality high. Always steak and seafood, but with different, delicious presentations every week.

The food was delicious!! Everything overall was great!
This is just nitpicking but a sign closer to the restaurant showing the correct direction would be awesome. There are quite a few buildings on the property and it’s very dark at night.

Food, service and price were excellent. Ms.Tina did an awesome job serving our party of 8. Ms. Ashley has an excellent restaurant…will definitely return. Steak and Blackened Mahi were excellent. The others in our party were also very satisfied with their meal and have plans to return ☺

We had an awesome dinner. The food, and hospitality were excellent. I had steak and scallops with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Really enjoyed the salad as well. My husband enjoyed his meal as well.
I rarely order steak out but decided to do surf and turf tonight. I made an excellent choice. It’s a quiet dirt gravel road in and out of Backwoods Swamp Water Bistro. Love the drive. Just outside Folkston Ga and well worth it. Make a reservation and take the drive. Open Friday and Saturday evenings.

The rib eye was huge and tender, the baked potatoes put a smile on this Texas gals face. I just not a fan of sweet steak. However I brought that huge bad boy home and slapped some butter in a pan threw some mesquite seasoning and lemon pepper on it and warmed it up and OMGOSH I went to town. I of course had to share with my baby girl .

Very small dining room so reservations are essential. The staff was wonderful and kept drinks and bread flowing. I ordered blackened shrimp. I started to eat and noticed a long hair (def not mine) across several of the shrimp and alerted the waitress who brought out another dinner for me and comped the meal. I
wasn’t going to say anything but another in my party did it on my behalf.
I will say the service is far better than the food. I also got to sample a friend’s food who had steak and that was really good. When I go back, I’ll try that next time.

My husband’s coworker highly recommended Swampfire. When we arrived we thought they were closed since there were no cars parked. We discovered we were the first guests to arrive for the evening and were greeted warmly when we entered. Everything was top notch, from the warm dinner rolls, the salad with Strawberries and raspberries, to the perfectly seasoned ribeye. And the service was outstanding! Definitely worth the drive from Fernandina Beach. Next time we’ll save room for dessert!

Food used to be better ! This WAS a gem , not so much anymore. Who ever heard of having to pay extra for a salad with your steak and potato. To me these 3 will always go together. Just my opinion

Don’t let the lack of reviews throw you off. This local gem is full of great food, friendly people, and amazing ambiance. Highly recommend the ribeye dinner and peach tea. Bonus points go to the fried banana peppers!
