Runners a local Lavalette gem dishing out the best seafood in town.
Perhaps, not as well known as the Lavalette institution named after the appendage of a crustacean, but certainly superior when it comes to both service and the quality of the seafood being served.
The fried calamari is outstanding, lightly fired to tender perfection served with a sweet marinara.
The shrimp cocktail served with U16 flavorful and meaty shrimp and solid cocktail sauce.
The oysters were large, meaty, tender with a slightly briny sweetness. Delicious!
The lobster bisque is a buttery winner.
We followed with the soft shell crabs and the Jersey corn lobster roll, both delicious.
The soft shell crabs were meaty and perfectly executed. The lobster roll was filled with plenty of delectable lobster meat, including tail meat.
As a BYOB you gain the advantage of bringing what you wish to drink with your meal without paying the up charge premium.
They are on the smaller side, perhaps about 15 tables total. But what they lack in size they make up in flavor. They are also very family and kid friendly offering crayons to each child in the party to paint their heart out and possibly get their masterpiece hung up on their wall of fame.
Go pay a visit to Runners if you are in town, you will thank me later.

Charming charming seafood restaurant with takeout. Our food was delicious. We each had something different. We started off with the calamari, and house salad. Perfect! Entree portion sizes was enough to take home.
Service was on point. Our waitress and bus girl were very friendly. BYOB. Delish!

This place feels like a diner, but the service and food are WONDERFUL! 10/10 Recommend! BYOB and has a very local feel. We were very well taken care of by our server Lynne and we will be back next time we are in the area. We had it all, oysters, shrimp, crab, lobster and steak. Everything was made with love ❤️

I have come to Runners for about 20 years now. This summer had to have been the best year yet! We meet up here once a year with about 25 relatives. The food could not have been any better- the wait staff was accommodating, friendly and very attentive. If you are looking for an awesome lunch or dinner experience at the shore, this is your place !

One of the best assorted seafood meals we have ever had! The freshness and meal temp were absolutely perfect! Surprisingly the biggest Suprise was the hot honey calamari. The most tender, flavorfull app I think I’ve ever had. And that’s saying something! Everything right up to desert was perfect. The wait staff couldn’t have been more attentive. Wish they were open all year! Fantastic!

I was very disappointed with my recent visit to this restaurant. While the bland food was something I could overlook, I was shocked to find a piece of metal in my shrimp. Additionally, I had specifically requested my steak to be well done, but it was served undercooked and visibly bloody. When I brought this to the waiter’s attention, the chef came out and insisted the steak was fine, though he offered to cook it longer if I preferred. The overall experience was both frustrating and concerning. Based on this visit, I don’t think I’ll be returning — and I certainly wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Was visiting NJ from Tennessee and Runners came highly recommend. The restaurant has a very warm and cozy atmosphere and includes a fresh fish and produce market. Our waitress, Julian was great, very accommodating. She told us she has been with the restaurant for 13 years, which says something. I had crab cakes, others had shrimp, scallops and salmon and it was all delicious. Very generous portions. I would definitely visit Runners on my next visit to NJ. I am sure you won’t be disappointed.

This place can only be described as an open desert oasis. You’d think the nostalgia-esque ambiance inside would satisfy your hunger, implying that the food you’re about to eat is delicious. But no, I was baited by the plain, bland menu, which paired well with the dim yellow lighting.
I’ll begin the review with a positive, the service was quick and the staff were very friendly, deserving of a good tip. Yet the food and the price however, were not equal. For stuffed shrimp with crab imperial, veggies and a baked potato, that did not have any seasoning —a plate reminiscent of a bad meal at Red Lobster — it was not worth 40$. The meal lacked depth for the price. Would I ever come back here again? No, never. Would I recommend this place to a friend? Sure, so that they could experience such blandness that I experienced at Runners. 1/5

Must stop for summer tourists and the locals always support Runners. Fresh seafood market and restaurant that’s served the shore since 2001. You won’t be disappointed with food or service. Ken does a fantastic job running the place.
