1st PURCHASE: Extremely friendly staff manning the table at the WED farmer’s market in Sacramento. Olive loaf was better than Faria (!). Apricot scone and muffins on the crumbly side. My cornflake cookie fell apart. I’ll be back for bread.
They always have a weekly specials menu, don’t miss that! Such inventive and delicious offerings.
Maybe they’re focusing too much on their commercial business and letting standards slip at the bakery. Such a bummer because I used to love going and supporting them!
…..and then, there’s that wall of bread!! The cakes look so beautiful, the quiche so tempting, and the excellent selection of pastries! I grabbed a sandwich shaped loaf, a baguette, and a decaf latte and went on my merry way. Can’t wait to return!
Venue feels crowded indoors, and busy street for outdoor tables, but it’s ok and nice feeling.
Overall definitely worth it for good baked goods and lunch.
Indoor/Outdoor Seating: They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, which is great depending on the weather and your preference.
Parking Challenges: Finding parking can be a bit tricky, though. There’s limited parking around the bakery itself.
Busy But Worth It: I visited on a weekend afternoon, and the place was buzzing! I had to wait in line for 5-10 minutes to order.
A Menu with Something for Everyone: Their menu has a good variety, with beverages, toasts, sandwiches, salads, pastries, and even drinks. They also have beautiful cakes on display, but keep in mind they only sell slices from the daily selection, not necessarily everything you see.
A Touch Slow on Service: While the staff was friendly, the service was a bit on the slow side. It took another 10 minutes for them to heat up my banana hazelnut chocolate bread.
Worth the Wait: However, the wait was absolutely worth it! The bread itself was fantastic. It had the perfect balance of banana, hazelnut, and chocolate flavors, and heating it up created a delightful textural contrast with slightly crispy edges. I honestly wish I had ordered more.
Overall: The Baker and the Cakemaker is definitely worth checking out if you’re in Auburn. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is inviting, and they have a variety of options. Just be prepared for a potential wait, especially during peak times.
