First visit, quite liked it. Quite bust midweek late lunch but impressed with service, quality and the food itself. I got the Thai Rice salad with gf cornbread (salty and yummy) — generous portions. Salad was delicious but I wished it had more lettuce and less rice. My friend had avocado toast with egg and she was happy with it. Hopping busy but we could hear ourselves talk at indoor table so it was fine. Love how big their loaf slices are! I watched worker cut pieces and was amazed how she made sure every cut was the same size (knife width). Great place.

EDIT: I’m obsessed w their savory bread loaves. So good for fancy deli sándwiches and hearty breakfast toasts at home. They slice so nicely. The density is great. Fantastic quality + consistency.

1st PURCHASE: Extremely friendly staff manning the table at the WED farmer’s market in Sacramento. Olive loaf was better than Faria (!). Apricot scone and muffins on the crumbly side. My cornflake cookie fell apart. I’ll be back for bread.

Walked in to enjoy a cinnamon roll and coffee. Staff generously offered to warm my roll. Unfortunately, they burnt the caramel and it really tasted poorly. While I love the carmel I had to pull it all off to eat my roll. Just be sure to tell staff how “warm” you want your pastries.

One of my absolute favorite places to grab a bite, a latte, meet with friends or pick up a nice edible gift! Locally owned, they also have a stand at the Foothills Farmers Market. Gluten free options, great coffee drinks, pastries and their food is wonderful! Recently I got the breakfast sandwich on their incredible gluten free bread. Melted cheese, bacon, egg and caramelized onions.
They always have a weekly specials menu, don’t miss that! Such inventive and delicious offerings.

Got takeout on Thursday and had the veggie potato sandwich and seasonal panzanella salad. Both were fine (not worth the ridiculous price), especially since ingredients are not all seed oil free or organic. Ended up getting horrible food poisoning after, and it wasn’t the first time this has happened.

Maybe they’re focusing too much on their commercial business and letting standards slip at the bakery. Such a bummer because I used to love going and supporting them!

From the moment you walk in you know you are in a special place….happy diners and friendly staff greet you!
…..and then, there’s that wall of bread!! The cakes look so beautiful, the quiche so tempting, and the excellent selection of pastries! I grabbed a sandwich shaped loaf, a baguette, and a decaf latte and went on my merry way. Can’t wait to return!

Borderline five stars, but coffee isn’t great and not on par with the excellent pastries and food.

Venue feels crowded indoors, and busy street for outdoor tables, but it’s ok and nice feeling.

Overall definitely worth it for good baked goods and lunch.

How have I not reviewed before? 🙂 We devour their bread regularly. I’ll always have great memories of bringing my babies (now kids) here for delicious pastries, sandwiches, and salads. Made with local fresh organic ingredients and love. We’ve had a few cakes from here and they were incredible (of course).

The Baker and the Cakemaker in Auburn is a charming spot for a delicious treat, but be prepared for a potential wait, especially on weekends. I’d give it a 4-star rating.

Indoor/Outdoor Seating: They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, which is great depending on the weather and your preference.

Parking Challenges: Finding parking can be a bit tricky, though. There’s limited parking around the bakery itself.

Busy But Worth It: I visited on a weekend afternoon, and the place was buzzing! I had to wait in line for 5-10 minutes to order.

A Menu with Something for Everyone: Their menu has a good variety, with beverages, toasts, sandwiches, salads, pastries, and even drinks. They also have beautiful cakes on display, but keep in mind they only sell slices from the daily selection, not necessarily everything you see.

A Touch Slow on Service: While the staff was friendly, the service was a bit on the slow side. It took another 10 minutes for them to heat up my banana hazelnut chocolate bread.

Worth the Wait: However, the wait was absolutely worth it! The bread itself was fantastic. It had the perfect balance of banana, hazelnut, and chocolate flavors, and heating it up created a delightful textural contrast with slightly crispy edges. I honestly wish I had ordered more.

Overall: The Baker and the Cakemaker is definitely worth checking out if you’re in Auburn. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is inviting, and they have a variety of options. Just be prepared for a potential wait, especially during peak times.
