This place doesn’t look like much from the outside but it’s so cute on the inside! It was an off time on Sunday afternoon so there was one other couple and myself. Service was great, menus had lots of pictures, I always love that!- and the vibe of the staff and restaurant was inviting and enjoyable. I got the combo ramen and it didn’t disappoint! Tons of flavor and everything cooked perfectly. I would opt for a little heat in my next one but it didn’t need it. I loved the way each meat was cooked leaving it tender and me wishing I had ordered double meat!! I will definitely be back! All the people I shared my experience with at the dog park later the next day said they eat here multiple times a week! I can see why. I’ll definitely be back! Thanks Pop Nigiri!!

I’ve been coming here for a while now, and the quality has always been consistent. Every time I bring friends or family, they’re impressed.

The ramen is one of my favorites — the broth is rich and flavorful, and you can really tell it’s been simmered for over 10 hours, not rushed or made from shortcuts. It’s comforting and satisfying every single time.

The sushi is also excellent, especially the salmon, which is always fresh and clean-tasting.
Their Korean fried chicken wings are a hidden gem — crispy, juicy, and seasoned in a way that’s different from other places around here.

Don’t skip the milk tea. They use mini tapioca pearls that are soft, chewy, and perfectly bouncy, and the milk tea itself is smooth and well-balanced. I honestly haven’t found this texture anywhere else nearby.

Overall, this place never disappoints. Easily one of the best spots in the area — highly recommend if you’re local.

Pop Onigiri is a small, relaxed restaurant that serves Japanese comfort foods such as onigiri, ramen, rice bowls, sushi rolls, and hibachi dishes. The menu also includes fruit teas with boba and several unique desserts. The overall vibe feels much closer to a casual neighborhood spot you might find in Japan than the typical Americanized sushi restaurant.

In Japan, small restaurants often specialize in a single item such as ramen, yakitori, or onigiri. In the American market that model can be difficult to sustain, so Pop Onigiri offers a broader menu while still maintaining an authentic feel.

I was dining solo but ordered a variety of items so I could get a good feel for the food.

I started with the Mango Passionfruit Green Iced Tea. It was very flavorful, though a bit sweeter than my personal preference. That is purely subjective and there was nothing wrong with it. Next time I will probably ask the staff for a recommendation for something less sweet.

For an appetizer I ordered the Spicy Soy Garlic Edamame instead of the traditional salted version. This dish was excellent. The edamame came coated in a thick soy based sauce with plenty of fried garlic flakes and a spice level that enhanced the flavor without overpowering it. The beans themselves tasted noticeably fresher than the typical edamame served at many restaurants.

Next was the Grilled Musubi Onigiri. Musubi refers to Spam, which is surprisingly popular in Japan and Hawaii. The menu offers about 18 different onigiri fillings along with several sauce choices. I selected the House Pop sauce.

Their onigiri is served in an Okinawan style that I would describe as “taco style.” Instead of a stuffed rice ball, the nori and rice are folded around the fillings and served as a handheld wrap. Mine included grilled musubi, egg, cucumber, and greens. It was a generous portion and the flavors worked perfectly together.

Then came the ramen. The restaurant offers roughly 18 varieties, and I chose the Spicy Curry Shrimp Ramen. It arrived in a large stoneware bowl with a very generous serving. The broth was outstanding. It was rich and flavorful with the depth you expect from a properly simmered broth, nothing like the thin broth associated with instant ramen. The curry flavor was classic Japanese curry and the spice level was balanced so the flavor of the broth still came through. The noodles had a fresh texture and the bowl included mushrooms, scallions, ginger, bean sprouts, corn, bamboo shoots, and the traditional half egg. This ramen was easily the highlight of the meal.

For dessert I tried the Pop Special Ice Cream. It is shaped like a small mango with a mochi like exterior and served on whipped cream with fresh blueberries and thin slices of orange. The mango flavor and light creamy texture made it a perfect finish to the meal.

The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable with a casual Japanese vibe. Soft music plays in the background, and one wall displays Japanese collectibles and anime figures for sale. There is also a television showing behind the scenes videos from restaurant kitchens in Japan, which is a fun touch.

The dining room is small with about 26 seats, plus outdoor seating on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant.

Service was excellent. The staff were friendly, attentive, and happy to answer questions while offering helpful recommendations.

One small suggestion. There is a vertical illuminated sign in the middle of the dining room that can be somewhat bright if you are seated facing it. Dimming it slightly in the evening might make it more comfortable.

Overall this restaurant earns a strong five star rating. If you enjoy Japanese comfort food and want to support a locally owned restaurant, Pop Onigiri is definitely worth visiting.

I’ve been meaning to come here but I hate dining alone but honestly this place is so tiny and cozy that it really didn’t bother me so much this time. I have to say that I really enjoyed the decor that they have around is simplistic minimalist but very fun to look at on the west wall there are knick knacks available for purchase. On the eastern and Northern wall there are a lot of fun One Piece figurines to look at! The seating is comfortable and there are plenty of seats for two and seats for up to, I believe 6, and if I’m not mistaken there are about seven spots to sit in although I I may be wrong because I did see some seating outside too which I was not sure belonged to this restaurant. If you’re someone who’s shy like me and you want to see the menu in person they have the menu outside of the restaurant. And now on to the fun stuff, the food! I decided to try an appetizer, some sushi and an entree and I was super satisfied! For the appetizer I went with the veggie spring rolls which came in a bundle of five and were piping hot and readily made from the looks of it and the nice thing is that it came with a little sauce to dip in which tasted like a sweet and sour sauce. So then we go for the sushi, I decided to go with the Dragon Roll and honestly I feel like I made an excellent choice there. The truth of the matter is I can’t stand the taste of avocado but in this setting I don’t know what it is about sushi, they just make it so amazing! Is it the shrimp tempura? The eel sauce and spicy mayo? The combination!? Yes to all! It was just delectable and I encourage you to try it yourself! And finally we have the entree, the Tokyo Karaage Fried Chicken over Rice! This bowl comes with multiple pieces of the crunchy Karaage chicken with a yummy soy garlic sauce, half a boiled egg, multiple pieces of broccoli and your choice of white rice or fried rice (for an extra $2). It’s a heaping bowl of food and you will definitely feel satisfied by the end of it!
I didn’t order any drinks or anything this time and maybe next time I will order the rice bowl with fried rice instead. So what did this tally up to? $45 or so. Not bad for a 3 course meal. Give these guys a try! You won’t regret it!

I started with a specialty sushi roll and it was honestly really good. The fish on top was fresh, and the sauce wasn’t too heavy. It had a nice balance of sweet and savory, and the roll looked really nice on the plate too. For the main dish, I got the chicken katsu curry. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy inside, and the curry sauce had a rich flavor without being too spicy. The rice soaked up the sauce perfectly. The portion size was solid and filling. The restaurant itself is small, but in a good way. It feels cozy and modern, and it’s a nice spot to hang out and eat. Overall, everything tasted high quality and well-made, and I’d definitely come back.

I had gotten the chicken ramen and a sweet strawberry pine boba. It was very good and the flavor was rich. The noodles were a good size and the egg was very tasty. I had matcha mochi ice cream as dessert and it was delicious, the mochi was soft and the matcha was not too intense. They also have a sections full of Asian keychains, collectibles, and small pieces. Overall the price was economical and the flavors amazing! 10/10 recommend

Great little spot with delicious food. Best Korean fried chicken I’ve had in SWFL so far. Ramen was done very well and authentic. The space is small so it got a little busy at dinner time. Despite the crowd, we were served quickly. Just had to wait a little for the check.
Patio seating is available and dog friendly.

Pop Onigiri is hands down one of the best ramen spots I’ve ever been to! The food is absolutely delicious, but the real star for me was the gyoza easily the best I’ve had since Japan. Perfectly crispy, full of flavor, and simply unforgettable.

Everything we ordered was amazing, including the ramen, and I was pleasantly surprised by the brown boba tea rich, smooth, and the perfect complement to the meal. Don’t skip the bobba tea, it’s seriously so good!

On top of the incredible food, the service was exceptional. The staff was friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome. It’s rare to find a place that delivers both unforgettable flavors and exceptional service, but Pop Onigiri does it effortlessly.

Highly recommend delicious food, great drinks, and an overall fantastic experience. Can’t wait to come back!

I went to Pop Onigiri and it was really cool. The place is small but super nice and cozy. I got a sushi roll first and it looked so pretty with all the sauce on top. The sushi tasted fresh and the shrimp inside was crispy. I liked the sweet sauce a lot because it made it even better. Then I got ramen and it was super good. The broth was warm and creamy, and the pork was soft and yummy. The egg was my favorite part because it was cooked just right. Everything tasted really good together. I would definitely go back again because the food was awesome and the place felt really chill.
