No offense to the skilled sourdough slingers, but finding brick-and-mortar bakeries this side of Spring Garden that offer varied fresh-baked breads has been an adventure. For that reason alone, I’m glad that Short Street has entered the game. Across two visits, I’ve spied everything from sourdough to harvest bread to marbled rye to challah. However, there is far more on offer here than just bread. Short Street has quite a few cookies, cakes, scones, and croissants as well. It occupies a small – or short, if you prefer – space, but it packs a lot of (constantly changing) inventory.
Everything I’ve tried so far has been a hit. The marbled rye was thickly sliced and made for a sturdy sandwich bread. An apple spice cookie packed in plenty of apple flavor while a red velvet cookie didn’t skimp on the chocolate chunks.
I can’t attest to their grab-and-go options, but for sweet treats, Short Street is hard to beat.

Absolutely delicious! Short Street Kitchen never disappoints — everything they bake tastes homemade, fresh, and full of love. You can really tell they care about quality and ingredients. Their pastries are flaky and perfect, the cookies are soft and chewy, and the breads always have that just-right texture.
The staff is super friendly and always happy to help with recommendations (try the muffins — seriously!). It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back again and again.

Muffins are good and a super cute place, but several staff were smoking cigarettes right outside the front door right before we walked in and so it made the bakery smell like cigarette smoke. Not the best smell you want when walking into a bakery, especially bringing in kids for a treat. Staff was friendly though!

Had brunch here for the first time today and this place is amazing. The food was phenomenal. Friendly staff and beautiful atmosphere. We are so excited to go back and try other offerings. Highly recommend!! If you want great food and a unique menu this is for you!

Read about this opening and decided to check it out with my family. The lady Destiny was very nice and the place is really nice and clean. We didn’t know where to park through so I think they should make a sign. My sister got the brown butter apple pie she thought it was too sweet I disagree. Not a fan of the skin on the apple though. The pumpkin cheesecake was exactly as it should be, basically a pumpkin pie cheesecake. I only felt disappointment at the peach cookies. The shortbread cookie and the design was so pretty but you can not taste peach at all. All in all I’d go again and try their other things.

I went to the new bakery on Short St. in Kernersville this afternoon!! What a treat!! It’s a co-op of bakers and chefs who pay to become members snd to use the massive kitchen. In essence, it’s ‘maker space’ for bakers and chefs.
A large variety of baked goods are displayed for comfortable browsing in the retail store that is cozy and inviting (great decorating)!! The décor boasts interesting, eclectic art and the soothing music adds to the ambiance of unhurried, but affordable indulgence. The service is wonderful and questions are cheerfully answered.
I bought and ate the most moist, delicious German Chocolate Cake EVER!! I got my husband a ginormous raisin oatmeal cookie he wolfed down before we got home! The prices are reasonable. I also bought a piece of chocolate torte (haven’t tasted yet, but have no doubts that it will be yummy!). They even had a savory scone I couldn’t resist. Oh, and the blonde and chocolate ‘Gooey Bar’ I bought my teenage cousin looks scrumptious!
Specialty drinks, as well as some of the standard ones are available, too.
Fabulous chefs provide a variety of pre-prepared one-person take and bake meals as well as tuna salad, pimento cheese, cowboy caviar, etc., available in the refrigerator.
And don’t shy away if you have gluten sensitivity! There’s a large variety of gluten free products as well!
If you need a quick-pick gift, there are so many interesting items from which to pick! Block prints (I LOVED the rabbit print), aprons, etc.
And watch for their next big ‘reveal’ in the next month or two!! I can’t wait!!
