Uhm….
I honestly thought that I was purchasing a lunch plate of three meats, sides.
Holy cow look at this food!
I went with a three choice combo two sides and wanted to try the hush puppies. Added the chicken to try it out.
So first of all, it’s excellent. Big shocker I know but —- I’m not a huge barbecue fan.
However, I definitely highly recommend the smoke pit. I will also tell you in my opinion, hands-down, 100 times better than city barbecue (separate review).
The three meats are brisket, shredded pork, burnt ends. I asked for a combination of lean and fatty on the burnt ends. Glad I did they were excellent!
Ordered a side of two pieces of chicken, plain. Ordered slaw, collard greens, and hush puppies.
Again, the following is my personal opinion only? The slaw and the collards were bit spicy. Collard greens were exactly what I expected and they’re good.
For me, slaw was too bitter. I understandthat is typical for southern slaw, so nothing against them at all.
The meats? Really really good! The texture, tenderness, were spot on. None of those meats were dry, nothing was overpowering, even the burnt ends, which I was afraid would be too sweet.
Don’t get me wrong. The burnt ends definitely were sweet but? The flavor was good and I enjoyed it!
I kind of wish I had gotten the cornbread instead of the hush puppies. The hush puppies are very good. I think if I had eaten on site, they would’ve been crispier on the outside? But the flavor was very good with a dense texture.
Anyway, wanted to try it and figured I would welcome in the new year by treating myself and sharing here with all of you!
Note to self? You don’t get a ‘lunch plate’ You get a lunch CASSEROLE usually I make a baked ziti in something this size lol!
The Food:
The pulled pork is tender, juicy, and piled high — exactly what you want from a Southern-style BBQ plate. The brisket steals the show, though: smoky bark on the outside, melt-in-your-mouth inside, with just the right balance of fat and flavor. The wings? Perfectly crisped, kissed with smoke, and sauced just enough to keep your fingers sticky but not drenched.
Portions & Value:
The servings are huge — this is the kind of BBQ where you either share with friends or head home with enough leftovers for another full meal (or two). It’s great value for the quality and quantity.
The only somewhat negatives during out first visit was that there is no silverware! It’s plastic utensils and paper towels, which you’ll need. Some friends wanted wine, but there was only one kind and no wine glasses.
We wanted something good, filling and reasonably priced and we both said “Smoke Pit”. Perfect choice.
We were seated quickly and Alie took the best care of us.
I decided on the brisket, sausage and rib combo with kickin greens, Mac and cheese and hush puppies.
Everything was AMAZING!!!! I had enough to take home for lunch the next day.
And you must get the pecan cobbler.
