I love this place!

We’ve been here twice recently.

The Hot & Spicy Crab lives up to it’s name. It’s also AQ/MP, so it’s pricy, and worth it. I was super appreciative that they did a “pre-crack” along the biggest parts. I had never had to crack a crab before and I would have been both lost, and missing out on an expensive meal. It was just delicious and I can’t say enough about the flavor and presentation. Also, there are four delightful buns served with it that are crispy outside and soft inside, to help sop up that delicious sauce. The staff was very attentive about removing shells and napkins.

We also had pineapple fried rice with beef, and cashew nut chicken, spicy.

It can be a little loud, but I love that there’s such vibrance. It’s great to see multigenerational families enjoying a meal on a Saturday night, in addition to all the other patrons.

Great place, I recommend it!

Attended a family gathering here for the first time, total of five tables. Dishes came family style with generous portions. Dining area was small but could accommodate large groups. Service was also good despite full house at the restaurant.

Party of 30+, mixed reviews of food from bland to too spicy. My curry was great. Pad Thai looked like it was warmed up in a microwave, dry and tough. Other dishes looked incredible and most friends were happy. Great location for large parties and the staff was wonderful! The place was packed and probably holds 100 people. Thank you.

Penang Garden’s pineapple fried rice, served on half a pineapple rind skin photos on the Internet looked attractive. Sadly, I can only order it without the rind skin. The waiter explained, a large pineapple has five servings of pineapple and only two of those will be served on half of a pineapple rind skin. Ridiculous if you ask me. I ended up getting the seafood pan fried Hong Kong style noodles $20 and a satay beef $16. The noodles came out surprisingly quick. That is because the vegetables were under cooked, especially the broccoli. The scallops, shrimps and squid needed more seasoning. As for the crispy noodles, most were already soaked making them not crispy. There weren’t any burnt ends on the noodles and missing good wok hei (distinctive smoky, charred, and flavorful taste.) The satay beef skewers were OK. The clientele for Penang Garden was mostly Toisan speakers and some Cantonese speakers. Surprisingly, it was 70% full and the waiters seem to know everyone there. Service was excellent. It made up for the lackluster food and sans pineapple fried rice order. I would have been pissed if I ordered it and it came out without the pineapple rind skin. As with life, we don’t always get what we want.

This is a mixed of Malaysian, Thai (Pahd Thai, Tomyum), Chinese, Singaporean and Indian (roti bread) dishes. There is also vegetarian options. I enjoyed the coffee spareribs (similar to Peking spareribs – boned, sticky and sweet) and the mango slices/dried tofu served in a mango shell (it would taste much better with firm or soft tofu). The dishes look the same in coloring but each had a distinct taste. The banana crepe was okay – it was a regular crepe filled with sliced bananas folded in half. Food came out quickly and was temperature hot. However, tea was lukewarm – my preference is temperature hot tea.

I went for dinner, the restaurant was quiet when I got there but got busy when I was there. Food is AMAZING and the service was great. There were only 2 to guys working, but they were well organized looking after customers. One of them even brought me a fork (I’m white, so I got a chuckle out of this, as I am not the clientele they are used to). I don’t get the option to have laksa very often in America, but was overjoyed for the opportunity and experience, though will say I was quite jealous of the beautiful whole fish the table next to me got, will remember that for the next time I’m in SF!

There’s not many Southeast Asia cuisine restaurants in Chinatown. This is probably one of the best ones. Although the food is good the restaurant could use another waiter when the restaurant fills up. In the past I have actually seen people walk out because they were not being waited on. I would come back here in I’m craving Southeast Asia food. You can find anything from Indian to Malaysian to Singaporean food here. Some of the dishes are fusion created by the chef and are quite good.

Came here for group dinner. Had 7 of their dishes, everything was very good. Coconut shrimp, beef redang, coconut rice, shrimp paste okra, Hainan chicken, curry chicken. They tone down any spiciness of the foods to accommodate our tastes. Food came out very quick, great customer service for our 16 people group.
